Chapter Three
"Sky!" Mommy declared triumphantly a few days after the egg hatched. I was disappointed by the pink squirmy thing that came out. It didn't look like a bird at all.
"Sky?" I was confused.
"Yay, Sky!" Polly jumped around, apparently knowing what she was talking about.
"That's the chick's new name," Mommy explained.
"But you don't know what color he/she is!"
"Look closely at his/her pinfeathers"
I looked. There was a hint of blue inside the hard outer shell. I was happy I didn't have mine anymore. They hurt!
But I turned out to be a green budgie. I hope Polly doesn't remember what I said about green budgies.
At least I'm a greywing and a pied. Polly's just plain green!
A day or so ago, ANOTHER egg hatched! Now I felt I had too many siblings.
"Mommy?" I chirped.
"Yes?" Mommy replied.
"Why are the baby chicks pink?"
"Hey, you were pink too!" Polly interrupted, "You were the pinkest chick I've ever seen."
I glared at him.
"As I was saying, Polly," She glared at him too, "Chicks don't have feathers. I really don't know much about this. You should ask Clouds."
Mommy scrambled out of the box.
I stared at this pink invader in out box and wondered.
Then I looked at Sky.
There was something about the name Sky that intrigued me. Mommy must have chosen it for a special reason.
And I couldn't help thinking there was a connection between Sky and my dream.
Mommy's up to something... but what?
