I was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 weeks ago. I think all I do anymore is run from Dr. appointment to Dr. appointment!!! Today, tomorrow, Friday and Monday will be no different! Oh and don't forget Wednesday and Thursday of next week too! Sheesh!!
Today I went for a MRI of my chest. Can you say torpedo tube?! I did good for the first part of the test. Nice slow breathing, kept my eyes shut, so I didn't see the top of that thing not 3 inches from the tip of my nose! When they had me roll over and plop my boo*s down into this box like thing it wasn't so easy. Boo*s where fine. Even being face down was fine. What wasn't fine was the edge of that dang box thing digging into my diaphram!! Let's remember here, I am fat and I have asthma. Can't breath to start with and now I've got a box poking me in the diaphram. "Hold still" "Can't breath" "We need to complete the test" "I can't breath" "Give me 3 more minutes and then I'll pull you out" "YOU PULL ME OUT NOW OR YOU'LL BE TALKING TO MY LAWYER!!" Fire torpedo! After I was able to breath again and get the knot out of my diaphram, I went in for another 3 minutes to finish the test. I was about to wiggle out of there any way I could!
Ok, left there head over to the surgeons office to pick up my orders to my "port-a-cath" to be put in.(this is where they will put the chemo instead of putting IV's in everytime) I'm trying to catch my breath sitting in the truck but they won't let DH get the orders because he doesn't have my "Healthcare Power of Attorney". (My Mom is the one named on it not him. Love him, but he can be too emotional to make important decisions sometimes. Hey! Everybody should have one of these! And a Living Will!! ) Ok, so I have to go in just to sign a piece of paper, sheesh.
Papers in hand we are off to the Oncolgoist. We weren't suppose to go here until Thursday but they rescheduled for today. Everybody is falling over themselves about Spook(my Service Dog for another problem). "Oooo she's so cute!" "So well behave." Spook just looks that them with the "You scrub people touch me, I'll bite your arm off!!" look. (she thinks anyone in scrubs is from the vets office) They take us to a room to wait for the Dr. He looks all of 12 I think he is scared of DH. He's acts really nervous but he explains all about the cancer I have and how we're going to cure it. The plan is to use Herceptin (sp?) as my tumor is showing that it has good Her2 receptors. Plan is for 4 treatments to shrink down the tumor, then surgery, followed by a year of Herceptin treatments. There were 2 other drugs that he is going to give me but I can't remember what those ones were. Tells me that I have to have a MUGA test of my heart to make sure it's ok to use the Herceptin with. That gets scheduled for tomorrow. I had a stress test last year and everything was fine so I'm not concern. Off to the lab to have blood drawn. Back to the room because they have to find the non-laytex stuff to use on me, sheesh! Blood drawn, am signed up for Chemo Class tomorrow at 2, MUGA test at 3:30 (plus I have to get a chest xray sometime for a different doc!) Chemo starts on July 9th and then on the 10th, just to make sure the meds don't cause me to croak with all my allergies.
Leave there, go home, drop off DH at work, and take a power nap. Up and out the door an hour later, back down the mountain to the urologist office, Pre-op visit.(I've got a kidney stone I have to get rid of before we can start chemo) Leave there and go to the hospital for 2 Pre-ops (the docs can't coordinate the 2 procedures on the same day, sheesh!) I'm stuck yet again! Someone needs to check to see if I have any blood left!! EKG, Normal. Yes I do have a heart! Chest xray I mentioned earlier is scheduled.
FINALLY GET TO GO HOME!!!
Tomorrow is Chemo class, MUGA, and chest xray. Friday is the gyno, just need to get that checked too. Monday is kidney stone surgery. Tuesday NOTHING!!!!!! Wednesday asthma doc and breathing tests. Thursday is port-a-cath surgery. Then NOTHING FOR 5 DAYS!!!!!!!! Chemo starts 2 weeks from today.
That's what I'm doing on my summer vacation. What are you doing on yours?!!!
