Hi BYC friends!

4 of my 9 duck eggs (mallards - runners are in progress) have hatched! I left them in the incubator for 24 hours and then put them in the brooder. Three of them are doing great and are cheeping and sitting upright. I have one, who is secretly my favorite, that can’t hold her head up. She tucks it under her and isn’t wadding around like the others. After reading a bit about it potentially being “wry neck”, I gave her poly-vi-sol without Iron. Is there anything else I can do to help this sweet baby? She loves being held and I keep my thumb gently near her head to help her sit in a normal way.

Just checked my PolyVisol w/out iron label, has 5IU of Vitamin E .... For Wiry Neck, my notes say - Vitamin E 400IU & Selenium 25mcg 2 - 3x day but lets double check with those with more experience & know ducks

Thank you all in advance :hugs

Happy to say they all have almost hatched! Two in the incubator drying out, two pending hatch, and the 5 in the brooder are doing well! The one I was worried about is in this pic (3rd from top, most “right” side of the pic). She/ he is doing so well now. Poly-vi-sol is a miracle!

Beautiful duckies!! :love

Glad to hear they are doing well! How is everything now?

Sometimes ducklings take a little longer to “uncurl” after being balled up for so long, but the vitamins were a good choice.
