The Marans Hatch-O-Holics April Hatch Along!

I have 17 cuckoo marans out and several pipping. Yesterday was day 21 and the fan on my incubater quit working! I had to work,so I bumped the temp up a little and when I came home.the thermometer was reading 108! Humidity was reading HI. I opened the lid for few minutes, turned the bater down a bit and went away. Went back a few minutes later and it was 132! No way, can't be,but quickly I opened the bater. I had 4 chicks out and several eggs were pipped or beginning to pip. I opened up several eggs a little and all the chicks were still living. I turned off the bater and left it. Went back about 30 minutes later and it still read 110. It would not go lower. I could not believe the temp was that high, the eggs were cool to the touch. I took the thermometer out and let it get to room temp and then put it back. It seemed to help, and during the night, several chciks hached. This morning it was reading 124, but the eggs were not hot. I think that the humidity is so high it is throwing the temp reading off. It can't be 124 and the eggs be cool to the touch. So, now I am flying blind. The humidity is off the charts and I can't trust my thermometer. My fan doesn't work and I have pipped as well as unpipped eggs. Send me good luck vibes as I try to salvage this hatch!

Out of my 10 remaining BC eggs, 2 dark pullet eggs seem gone and a 3rd huge Davis egg is blood ringed. Time for another cull.

But if all of the remaining ones hatch nice and healthy, that will bring my Marans population up to 26!

Lockdown in 2 days.

This hatch may go down in history as a testimony to the resilience of chicks. Despite all of the problems I have had,I have 28 chicks in the brooder and 9 chicks in various stages of pipping. I have gone against every rule! I have no idea what the humidity is,can't trust my thermometer and can't even tell you how many time I've opened the bater or how many chicks I've helped. Out of 48 eggs, I figured 5 were iffy, and probably that many more wouldn't pip for some reason, so I guess getting 37 chicks is pretty good. It has been nerve wracking,to say the least. I do not recommend it.I'm off to check the temp again. Last time I checked, the humidity was down to 89, so my thermometer is acting more normal.

7 days to go!!!!! Lockdown on Sunday!

Haven't candled once.....have no idea whats going on in those little eggies but we shall see very soon. I'm hoping for a few more splashes in this batch than I got in the last hatch. Let's go chickies!

Today is hatch day! I'm using a sportsman without a window so I can't see what's going on and it's driving me nuts!!

49 eggs are too many to put into my little hatcher with a viewing window so I have to suffer.

I'm hoping for the tray to be brimming with chicks when I open the bator on Tuesday.

Good luck Illia and pinkchick, and congrats on the great hatch ginasmarans!

ok....today is day 21 and I see movement in the eggs but no pips yet.
