The Middle Tennessee Thread

I talked to you at the delta fair I think . it was a lot smaller than last year's . Are you you going to Jackson this weekend ?

I know this was not to us but my wife and I were there. We are the one that had the Turkey. Along with Hardin Poultry and we will both be in Jackson this weekend as well.

OK your the one I was thinking of . Wish all of my birds where in better shape bad time of the year . I'm the one with the black oegb . That was all I had ready for show.

Tractor Supply in Shelbyville is having an Animal Swap this Saturday from 8am until ? . Just getting the info out there! I will be there with chicks and turkeys, maybe some of my breeding birds.

I guess I will be going early before work, I work right in shelbyville I really just need a silver seabright roo and I will be good.

We will be bringing the same birds except maybe a diffrant Jersey. Not sure about that yet, Prince the one we had at the Delta fair has a bit of black on his comb but is our largest and he holds his tail up better than the other 2 roos, and at only 10 weeks olds is a very good size bird.

All my girls are laying now! EE finally laid for the 1st time today. She laid a cream colored egg with pink speckles :)

So today we discover that "The Bourbon Sisters" (BR Turkeys) are deathly frightened of...over ripe peaches.
ahh, yah
Got several bushels to feed the pigs but they have to be hand pitted to avoid choking hazard for the pigglets.
So I figured the really wet smashed ones would just get divided up into the bird pens to pick on.
DH followed directions, put some in each coop/pen, the free ranging Bourbon girls headed in for the night
took one look at the ripe peaches , screamed bloody murder, turned , ran out, flew 20 ft up in tree and roosted
totally ignoring the arrival of a thunderstorm which is of course far more dangerous for them to be sure.

sigh

They are really sweet, but wow timid doesn't begin to cover it about these turkeys...peaches, seriously...

OMG..that was sooo funny and a great visual in my mind. We have Standard Bronze turkeys and they are soooo mellow that our biggest Tom sat in my lap after the Delta Fair and let children come up and pet him...wonder if mine would freak out about peaches...wonder if it is the color, cause ours really adore watermelon.
