Penny Hen, if you'll let me know when you're ready to order, I'll be glad to go in on it with you. Last year Glenn at Sandhill worked very hard to "make" the chickens I wanted, and I would like to get something else from them. I'm quite sure I can find something I want.

I use DE for the birds, their houses and the garden. And the dog house. And the horse pen. I give the horses Ivermectin paste every 3 months ,especially since we lost 2 alpacas to deer worms, but I would never put it on my birds. Why would you put that on your food? Yuck.

I checked out the chickens last night and don't see any problems. The reason mites/lice seemed possible was that one of my barred rock hens seems to have a dirty vent area (and the sand discussion got me paranoid). Anyway, I put more DE in the coop. The wet summer kept a small part of the run damper than I would like, and that's a problem I'm going to fix with more drainage gravel and sand and some Sweet PDZ. I'll probably keep Sweet PDZ in the run now, too.

Also, I now suspect molt for at least one of my barred rocks who isn't laying much (if at all). There are a lot of small feathers around right now.

Deer worms... the best way to approach the severe deer worm problem in TN this year is to prevent them at the host.
Even Ivermectin and Safeguard (the treatment for deer worm in highly concentrated doses which is only successful less than 50% of the time with early diagnosis), will not prevent this problem.

Deer worms use an intermediate host... either slugs or snails. Eliminate your snails and slugs and you will eliminate your deer worm problem. Not always easy to do with all the rain we've had this year, but putting water tanks on high, dry ground and not grazing your pastures (EVER) to less than 4", are the best two ways to prevent transfer of deer worm parasites from intermediate host to livestock.

One of my babies was severly injured yesterday He was scalped by the rooster, not sure if she will make it or not. The rooster got a hold of her and pecked out all her head feathers and ripped ALL the skin off the top of her entire head! She is separate now even from her sister. I feel so bad for her Darn rooster!

Hey all I used to be on here about 2 yrs ago then life and divorce happened had to sell all my birds and move to the city. I just got a house a few acres out here in good ol Eagleville....starting over again. I have a coop coming to the house today YAY!!! I got a really good deal on the side of the road so now I need some eggs to test out my bator... anyone have a dozen or so of maybe EE eggs?

oh just in case.....I only have a white lav split am pullet and a lav roo (yours) so you will get whites lavs and splits. the ones I got from you carried rec white so now I am breeding for some whites. I have new birds from smith growing out but it will be spring on them.
