RedPulletMama- I'm so sorry to hear about your baby. Is it one of the wellies? And is it that EE roo? They aren't usually aggressive.
I once had a yhoung roo get pe ked down to the skull. He was cornered and they pecked a hole about the size of a quarter off of his head. I moved him inside and would clean his head with warm water daily and add a layer of neosporin. It took a while, but it eventually grew back together.
I'm so sorry!

Yes, one of the Wellie babies and the EE roo. I think he was just protecting the girls from the danger an innocent, helpless baby would obviously create lol. I don't know what happened?? He's still scared of all the girls except the one he came with and he's never been mean or showed any aggression till then. He has started crowing and I love it! Hoping I will see him 'doing his duties' soon. The baby is doing well now. Eating, drinking, pooping, and peeping. It just looks horrible.

Thank you all for info on caring for my baby Wellie that was attacked by the rooster. She is doing well. I feed her scrambled eggs and yogurt. She is walking around and peeping. I keep Neosporin on her head for now. It looks nasty, but I think she is going to make it. She is missing her sister, but I have them separate for now too cause even though they are the same age I'm afraid that even she might pick at it. Hope the healing continues...

Hey citygirl yes I am back I got a coop going to get me some bator eggs sat from DMRippy start the journey :) @ DMRippy I saw you made a bunch of pallet coops real interested in seeing those

I have a thread with all kinds of pics of the build. I made them to accommodate the birds I got from you hehe. you can see them in person too. ;)

Anybody know what this bird is? It has something wrong with it and has been sitting in the front yard all day. We have no idea how to take care of it but thought somebody out there may want to take it on or help with some advice before the neighborhood cats get it. It gets frisky when you touch it but falls right back asleep.

There is a wildlife bird rescue group in the Nashville area. They are the ones who you see at the State Fair and come to the schools with the owls and hawks and crows and other birds that were too damaged to return to the wild. I gave them a dove that I found that had hit a window and put out an eye. I can't remember exactly how I got in touch with them (that was before chemotherapy). But I am betting that if you call your County Agent (Ag Department) that they could point you in the right direction.

In the meantime if you have a laundry basket you could set it over the woodcock and weight it with a stone. Give him some water with Poultry Nutridrench if you have it.That would give him some shelter on this rainy day as well as some protection from the cats while you get in touch with the wildlife folks.

Folks I have too many barn cats. I am offering a selection of barn cats that are mouse hunters but will leave chickens alone. I won't guarantee that about little fluffy chicks but these will not hunt half sized juveniles free ranging.

They are free because I have been too broke this past couple of years to get them fixed. Thus why I have too many. They have been raised with dogs and live quite harmoniously with them. In fact one yellow tom absolutely adores yellow dogs. When my daughter lived here with her Golden Retriever he developed this affection (who doesn't love a Golden?). When she moved out he was sort of lost and settled on my yellow Lab cross as a replacement. It was very humorous. Red (he has a red cast to his coat) kept looking at me as this tom rubbed all over him purring. He didn't know what to think at first.

This tom has a brother who is a little more shy but not wild. I would like to see one or the other go because although they used to be the best of friends they fight now over girls. If you go by weight the dog lover brother is probably the best hunter. He is solid muscle.

I also have a shy but friendly gray tortoise female who always looks like she is worried about something. I have seen her hunt for her kittens and bring in a huge fat mouse to show them how to eat it. I would love to rehome her to someone because I was angry when she was a kitten because her mother had gotten pregnant despite me locking her up. I scarred her for life and she is always worried that I am going to do something unpleasant to her. She makes a decent dual purpose house/barn cat. She loves being petted.

There are a couple of itennerate toms that grew up as kittens here but the yellow tom ran off into the woods. When the woods hunting gets scarce they brave his wrath to come in and get food. The black one was hanging around last week. I may see more of them as the weather gets colder. There was a female daughter of the grey tortoiseshell but I have not seen her in a month.

I feed them dog food to encourage them to hunt. They won't starve on it but it is short of protein (for a cat) so they hunt to supplement. It is a good grade of dog food Pet Pride Large Breed Formula.

All of these get along with dogs and are safe with free ranging Juvenal to adult chickens. I don't have problems with rats, ferrets, weasels or squirrels. I regularly find vole (short tailed mice) bodies or partial bodies (butts usually) lying around.

If any of these interest you PM me.

I may have asked this before, but...

Does anyone know if Ameraucanas are particularly susceptible to 'bumblefoot' in our region? Out of 5 birds, 3 of mine are Ameraucana and 2 of them have had problems with it this summer! (I suppose it could be a family thing, rather than a breed thing, since they are sisters...) Just looking for input from the community here. Both birds seem to be responding to treatment, seemed weird that both of them got it at the same time.

I hope she continues to heal!
