Woke up this morning, day 20, to 5 baby chickens hatching! 4 are fully out, waiting on #5 and the other 15 to start pipping. Not going to slep at all!!

Found them

Hearty little bugger..... even after being run over several times he was still able to open his mouth! He had 7 rattles. Finally we had to cut its head off.... odd feeling driving with a RATTLER HEAD in a cup in my car.....

Oh that's just not right.

Did you have extra Guinea eggs for me for tomorrow? Tell me how much you want for them if so, if not, no big deal, I'll get some from you when you have them, just put me on your list.

I am not going tomorrow! Sorry. I will be going to franklin in a couple of weeks. I don't have any now anyway. I set 4 doz and have another doz sold. I did find 5 today.... hoping they will keep laying where I can find them. I need to keep me a few too.... I have lost 2 guinea in a week or so. One was gutted no idea really what did that. Found feathers today.... think maybe the dog got it. Hubby let the dog loose by mistake.... dang it. So I gave 5 grown ones away to be eaten.... 2 killed each other in a fight and now 2 more. But I can't just keep a few ..... need to add some out back I think. We will find a way to house them somehow LOL.

How big do the copperhead s get? How do I know if it is a baby or not.

Babies are the WORST. They can't control their venom. We had a little copper head in the water cut off at the farm.... little thing too. I don't remember what we did with that. Not sure we would have taken a chance with him and our hands in the same place. I also had a close call when I was pregnant. We had beavers (yes we have those too) building a dam in our part of the creek and we were clearing it out. I reached in pulled the debris out and before I could toss it my 26 year old son yelled "SNAKES" 2 little copperheads were swimming away from the area I just pulled the debris from..... YIKES

Copperheads and Cottonmouths are related both tend to like water areas..... not that you will not find copperheads other places. That copperhead was about 1700 feet from the creek. He was well hidden in the litter of the leaves on the ground.

We have LOTS and LOTS of woods around all the houses in the area. Most of the properties have over 30 acres we have 68 and only 12 or so are clear. so we have lots and lots of wild life and snakes are expected..... we just don't like the deadly ones.
