The Middle Tennessee Thread

Hey y'all I just bought a place in Murfreesboro right next to the battlefield. We have 4.5 acres of good land. We haven't moved yet but will be soon. We live in IA at the moment and can't wait to leave! Our property came with a coop but it needs some fixin' and some chickens! I'm not sure what birds do well in Middle TN but am thinkin' about Black Jersey Giants. I'm also zoned for agriculture! If you live nearby you are more than welcome to come start a garden of your own in our yard!

Glad to have you in Tennessee. I live in Smyrna. Lots of different chickens are good here. But I don't have that much experience. Just got my first chicks a couple of weeks ago.

I was going to get a dozen Cream Legbar hatching eggs from a list member but do to some dogs she is not going to be able to provide them.  I am still looking for them and also if anyone has a lead on Penesenca eggs or I would consider chicks.

The person that jumps to mind with penedesencas is chicken canoe, and maybe ronott1, both BYC members. Chicken canoe is in St Louis, and ronott1 is in California. I am not sure if they would ship eggs or chicks, or if you are interested in shipped eggs/chicks. They may also know someone closer, perhaps in Tn.

I have Rhode Island Reds and Golden laced Wyandottes and they both do great. Only thing I have to do extra is put vasaline on the Single combs in the winter so they dont get frost bite.

I didn't realize how big the market for chicks are here. I though I was going to have a hard time starting up my 'micro?' Farm and selling eggs and chicks. Nope, I have more orders than I do chicks. Even with the order I've been losing because I'm not NPIP yet.
