She layed up until the summer. Now she just hangs out, I fully expect to find her dead everyday. But so far she's still kicking. But I'm starting to notice she doesn't come back to the coop every night. So then I have to go search for her, all the while with my heart in my throat...

aww sounds like my friend and her duck.Shes has a 4year old Peking (I could be wrong on spelling...big white duck lol) She said they only average 3years: (

Those of you with guinea I have a question..... I have LOTS and LOTS of keets. I have not sold ANY this year for some reason. No biggie but I need somewhere to house them SOON. So I have 2 issues. 1) where to put them? I have a pen for guinea and have raised younger birds with the older by penning the younger ones in the run. I have too many to do that this year. I would need the WHOLE pen, but I have a few grown guinea that have lived there for their whole lives.... can I just kick them out? Most of the time they don't go home at night and I only have like 8 left this year. 2) I have some colors I don't want to free range and lose (I have lost most of my flock this year to something) and then I have the Pearl and Pieds I don't mind free ranging. Should I divide the run and have a breeding side and a free range side or just let the pearl and pieds run free with the others? The pen is like 12+ x 20+ if that helps.

That is a problem, all my guineas free rage, but a raised them with chickens, so they hung out. If you want the one type to breed, I'd say you need to give them the whole pen, that's because they can can get stressed out pretty easily if too packed in, and stressed birds don't lay.

If you diced to let the others free rang, and there is a tree you'd like them to roost in, make sure to let them go close by to it (not to close) and do it in the evening, not so late to where they can't see, but not light enough to where they think they have time to run off. That's always worked for me, if the tree is nice and tall with room to fly in, they will use it. Though, I've had a lot of hens go missing when it comes time for nesting, they go off in the woods and don't come back.

Hope that helps. :)

I have QUAIL! I was taking the 4 chicken chicks out of the aquarium Hatcher/brooder when I heard some peeping from the incubator. They were not due until Friday. I was moving the chicks to the brooder in the basement when I heard them. I have six Cortunix so far. The bobs haven't started hatching yet.

Thanks.... I did kick them out LOL. They walked around the pen today looking like "what are they doing in there?" the little ones would run to the other side for fear of the "BIG ONES" ..... it was entertaining.

The big ones do roost in a tree near the pen. My only real worry is feeding and watering them now. I don't want to leave feed out. I know they will get plenty of food running round. They may go going my neighbors guineas.
