You can set the day they are laid no problem.  You don't want to set eggs daily because they will hatch daily and that is a lot to keep up with.

I don't know of any other type of Barnivelders but double laced (blue and reg)  BUT they are not a breed I follow.  Seems like there was a another laced type but i can't remember what it was.

That dot is a sure fire test of fertility.

There are also silver laced barnevelders - they are double laced. If my memory serves me correct they lay a white egg, not a brown egg like the blue/regular laced. Well, at least the ones brought into the US do.

All eggs have the white spot, called the germinal disc. It just takes a bit of practice to tell the fertile from the infertile. Basically, in an infertile egg, the germinal disc is a solid white spot, and not uniformly round. When an egg is fertile, the germinal disc is faint rather than solid white, is circular, and is about 3 times larger than the infertile germinal disc.

Anyone know the age you can begin to move pullets from crumbles to pellets feed? My flock has 22 week olds and 27 week olds ( of which 3 have been laying the last 2 weeks).

Agreed - I tracked down where saw the silver laced barnevelders and it turns out that my memory was wrong. That site stated that their silver laced barnevelders lay a cream-colored egg, not white as I stated. Either way it is not the dark brown that is expected of a barnie.

My boss just announced that he is closing the doors of our sales department. I am officially out of a job at the end of the month. As much as I hate to do it, I think I am going to have to downsize my flock. I don't see how I can afford the feed bill with no income.

I have barred rocks, easter eggers, buff orpingtons, welsummers and pure ameraucanas. They range in age from hatched last summer to a few years old. PM me if you are interested.

I had to carry warm water down this morning to unfreeze the water containers for my chickens! It was 23 this morning and snowing huge white flakes! The winds are high so all the chickens are locked up in their coops today.
And I got the roosters combs, wattles and ear lobes slathered in Bag Balm to hopefully prevent them from getting frostbite! They felt very violated after I grabbed them up and slathered their faces!! LOL
It is 21 degrees F. now and by dark tonight it will be near 0 degrees F.
Everyone will be getting their grain treats tonight before their bed time!

Well I just went outside to check on everyone again before dark and I found my roosters are getting prepared for the below 0 degree F. temps tonight and started growing feathers on his comb and wattles!!
LOL this is too funny!! I am just kidding Where I applied Bag Balm to them earlier today it makes their combs sticky like petroleum and when he preened his feathers the loose feathers stuck to his comb But it looks funny!! I love these boys!
