That STINKS, Tish!!! I am so sorry they are screwing with you. Can you get your husband and some of his buddies to have a sit-in at the bank? Camos and a little artillary might speed up the paperwork.

I think my black jersey giant is going broody. She has been sitting in the nest box practically all day. When I left the house at 9:00 this morning she was there - and she's still there now. I've opened the top of the nest box a couple times and petted her - I've checked under her and gotten eggs the other hens have laid. She has laid an egg each day for the past 16 days - but not today. Each time she has laid an egg the past week or so, she has left lots of small downy feathers there. My ancona climbed into the nest box with her awhile ago and laid an egg beside her - which the jersey put under her when the ancona left. Should I get some hatching eggs to set under her? What do you do with a broody?

Update: Just went out and checked the coop - It's completely dark here, and she's still in the nest box. First time any of my chickens have stayed in the nest box at night. Donna, do you have some hatching eggs I could get tomorrow? Or should I put some of the ones from my bator that are supposed to go into lockdown tomorrow under her?

She'd think it just takes 3 days to hatch an egg!

Yeah I can...I have 3 from today that have not made it to the fridge and maybe a couple tomorrow. I have a dozen RIRxNH I was going to hatch but you can have some of those if you want, I have them all the time and can put more in with the next hatch in a week or so. Have you done any reading on broodies? They can be broken. Do you want more chicks? You could leave some eggs or golf balls there and then one night slip some new chicks under her. Call me if you want them I will leave them out just in case. I will be in Sparta tomorrow. You might want to give her a few days to see if it sticks. I had one that seemed to be going broody too, but it didn't stick. Same thing in the box all day and night but that seemed to be it! No more sittin'!

That's what I'd better do - as much as I'd love to let her try to incubate/hatch some eggs. However, I'm still working on getting the space for the chicks I already have in the brooder and the bater. So I will wait. Tomorrow I will work on breaking her broodiness for now. Thanks for the offer, though, Donna!

So despit my not wanting to i set up the brooder for the chicks. Last night was just way to cold!!!! Anyways the heat lamb will keep them plenty warm but my guys could use a couple more bodies for body heat haha if anyone knows of any chicks needing a good home please tell. I have plenty of room in the brooder.
