The Middle Tennessee Thread

Hey, EweSheep! Welcome to TN!

I know nothing of local campsites. Hopefully some of the others can chime in and help out there. Our weather is wildly unpredictable. We have been having highs in the 60s/lows in the 40s, but this week we got snow and ice and temps down in the 20s at night. Later this week it's back up almost to 60 again with lows in the high 20s. Sigh. It has been VERY rainy this winter. My pens have had a couple of inches of mud for weeks now. About the time they start drying out it rains again. The ground is really saturated right now. I'm sorry to say that it has been nothing but cold, wet and windy lately.
I haven't heard that bedbugs are a problem in TN. Doesn't mean that they aren't. Just means that the news isn't talking about them. You are probably okay as long as you don't stay at one of the really cheap motels.

So far as taking chickens back home, this lot is a bunch of enablers. Just say the breed and someone will happily add more chickens to your stash.

I am like you about the weather and camping. I would not do it right now. But I am not that big on camping anyway.

Bedbugs..... It was on the news a few months ago, it is a problem all over the country. I saw a show on parasites. And this woman came to Nashville for a convention and came home with bed bugs from a high dollar hotel. A couple of years ago we were traveling and HAD to stay at a motel and it was full of BUGS.... I don't know how we didn't bring them home, just luck I guess.

Check out the room you will be staying in BEFORE you pay them, I wish we had

I think you could buy something for bed bug and take it with you.... I may do that the next time we travel. I don't want a repeat bug experiance. Enjoy Nashville! I don't know anything about the area you are going to or camping. Maybe someone will join in with some help.

Hubby just told me where that is.... I have a friend that lives down there.... I will ask her on facebook for hotels and camping if she knows any.... SHE is def not a camper type.

Thanks I would reall y appreciate that! If I can avoid going to a motel, all for the better. Too bad they don't make mini pop up campers for a Dakota truck!

OK folks hopefully I am in the right place here in the TN thread. I have questions for you if you incline to help or offer suggestions or advises!

We are planning on a trip to Shiloh event http://shiloh150th.com/index.html and wondered where we can find a good campsite available no more than ten miles from Shiloh battlegrounds. We want to tour the battlefields and local events going on at the same time (like our New Salem site, houses, crafts, etc. of old history).

We will be doing some primitive camping, having our own tents but don't know about the weather wise. Has it been decent for you in the past few years? I can not take the cold or cold wet windy days but there are some level of toleration I can handle before deciding to bunk in a motel/hotel. I got a BIG fear of bedbugs or what nots that I dont need hitchhikers coming home with us.

We were hoping a friend of my hubby would take us in her beautiful home but so far, it looked like she dropped from the face of the earth...maybe her computer is down or not working. Its a pity hubby didn't get her address and phone number before it happened.

I might have more but I would not mind picking up a few chickens on the way back home LOL!

We are avid campers. Both Watts Bar and Douglas Lake are in that area and beautiful places to camp.During that time though it's going to be real iffy as far as how enjoyable it will be.Wet or muddy is a very good possibility
We camp for all of those same reasons but lately I'm staying in mostly motels for rabbit shows..hubby stays home so doesn't the camper. If you research motels customer reviews are great about the bed bug horrors..so far we haven't brought home any critters other than the one's we planned to.In March nearly every weekend I have a motel booked again this Year I can't wait to get the camper out and have some fun.No electric no camp site water just family time

What type of chickens can we all send home with you

Hey guys. So yeabought these two hens, one a new hampshire and one seems to be a blrw wyandotte mix . Gorgous birds, well the new hampshire lays a double yoker and the mix lays two eggs... All in one day.:) good buy. Haha

So I got my new incubator set up, and it's getting up to temp now. I'm so excited, no fluctuations in the temp whatsoever, only a steady gradual climb then it stays completely steady till I adjust it again. On my first incubator I had the Thermostat mounted vertically and held off the wall with pieces of straws. My temps fluctuated by 8 degrees. I ran it at 96-104 degrees and kept tabs on the average which in that case is 100. I had good results with that, but can't wait to see how steady temps work out for me. This time I followed the advice of a few BYC'ers who said you need the metal back of the thermostat about 1/2 inch above the light bulb. I built a little cage around my light bulb with the old wire floor from my first incubator and secured the thermostat to it with a zip tie and I'm most impressed with the results. Still gotta cut in my vents and work on getting my humidity down some. I had the cooler outside and the top was off of it and it filled with water. I had to make a wooden top too. The one that came with it was damaged too bad to use. all in all, it's a lot better though. Stable temps and around 50 egg capacity. I'm happy.

Ok byc friends get ready for another cold snap again...... rain tommorow and warm and then 35 for the high on wed. will be glad when spring arrives!!!

Channel 5 says 41 wednesday....that is just cool not cold to me. I am just glad we missed the 13 night the had originally forecast for tuesday night... that is cold. Was not looking forward to the frozen water thing again.
