I plan to wait him out. I think it actually his son, who doesn't live there but comes to visit often. You know young and full of brass.

Pickled I'd almost take you up on the offer, not for my neighbor but for my daughter in law. But that's another story.

Mat I wish I could free range the chicks, but my sons pit would surely make a meal out of them. He won't always be here so they'll get out sometime. Just don't know when .

Donna I will only resort to retaliation if givin no choice. ie he actually shoots one of the chickens or anything else on my property. Then he better look out, he'll have a war on his hands. He doesn't want me to have to call in my Marine on him. Or open my safe for that matter.

Amy and Becky the eggs are looking pretty good thus far ! I did just a small random quick candling and things look pretty good. The Marans are tough to see Becky. I will do a complete candling on day 7 i'll keep ya'll posted. Thanks Much my new chicken friends ROCK

Looks like somebody has decided to start laying...

The big egg is from one of our Buff Orps.. They are 2 years old. Now the layer of this egg is a mystery. Any ideas who is laying this tiny egg?

These were hatched 3-3 of this year.. except the giant who was 3-1...so they are all "of age"

2 Barred Rocks
1 RIR
2 Amer
1 Black Giant

ETA: We do have 3 red mystery pullets from TSC..but they are 6 weeks younger.. and then the Marans..but they are 6 weeks old and still in the nursery..

One neighbor has chickens, one neighbor has horses and loves hearing the crows, and he gets free eggs.:) and the other loves to watch the chickens roam his lawn. Im blessed to have good neighbors. Plus we live on 6 acres of land.

Thank you kindly... It must be the barred rock that was flirting with the roosters that are free range........

.... you try to keep them safe and they go for the bad boys who roam the neighborhood.....

another question for you folks. I just came in from feeding and watering the flock. i like to handle the birds some while i'm out there, just to help keep them used to some contact. Their not real friendly, they'll come up to me if i have treats but if i try to reach twards them they retreat to the back of the run. Anyway 1 rooster ( i call him Dinner ) was the first to be held. i put him down after just a short time and picked up another roo. held him put him down etc..no problem. When i held the girls he wanted to come closer, not to close mind you. When i put them down he ran over to them and pecked them on the head. I shooed him away but he did it each time i put one of the girls down. ( I think he thinks he's the boss) I finally pinned him to the ground when i caught him while he was pecking one of the girls. I dont want him to become aggressive twards me or the girls. Is this normal behavior ? part of the pecking order? Him just displaying his " dominance " ? thanks for any advice. I dont plan to keep him forever he's just to small to process right now. But seperating him from the rest is not an option, as i only have the one coop and run. thanks again.
