True! AND you are contributing to your long term health. Chickens lower stress levels.

I'm having a hard time picking just a few breeds to focus on. I'm doing the buff silkies, of course, and the BBS ameraucanas. The random LF pen is making EEs, but I want welsummers and wheaten marans too. Plus there are those cochins Holly is trading me... darn, I need a new coop!

HappyMtn has beautiful Lavender Ameraucana's
City Girl-they can raise stress levels as well. The guy I bought these Lavs from is about to have a heart attack now he knows they are missing

I'm moving some of my little Cochins around this week...by the meet up there will be quite an assortment of Cochin egg possibilities..right now I'm not getting anything from my Mille Fleur pen but I will have frizzle and more by then.As much as I have sold I'm still coop challenged so working with what I have until he gets caught up...gee I don't know what's taking him so long

Raven,I bet you could find a call at the Scottsville Amish auction. It's coming up April the 2nd,there are usually lots of calls there.thats in Scottsville ,Ky. It is a huge sale for all kinds of poultry. And they are not all just farm mutts either,I have seen some real quality birds go thru there. I know a lot of people shun the auctions when they have blip flocks but you can and always should quartile the new birds and then test them before adding to your flocks. Okay ,I'll get off my soapbox!lol I just hate to see people turn down a chance to get really nice birds because they think they will be breaking npip rules.
At last I have the new spring chicks at Rocking Chair Ranch! Had a turken bantam hen hatch 6 today, hopefully more tonight. Then I have some eggs in a friends gator hatching this weekend.nothing says spring like daffodills and baby chicks!lol
I am sore and tired,I worked flower beds today and transplanted several daylillies. Can't wait to get the sunshine coming tomorrow,

Thanks Okla I will try to get there! She just needs a mate doesn't matter what color right now my White Peacock is displaying for her

Morning everyone! Hey, I think I just saw a spot of BLUE SKY up there . . .

Okla-DD, you're making me feel like a wimp! I just didn't want to crawl around the garden yesterday in the chilly weather, so I scrubbed indoors. I will get out there today, though. There's so much to do!! I may even have to toodle the mower around part of the back yard where the grass is starting to get thick. . . . or maybe I should just get some mini sheep! *sigh*

Holly, have your chicks arrived yet? I just hate when that happens. Hope everything goes well.

CityGirl, how are all your little ones doing? I think it's an excellent idea to purchase some little girl chicks to pair off with your extra roos. Now I just need to find sex-link BBS bantams, LOL! If anyone invents one, do let me know!

1newegg, not to worry re. the bantam wheaton Ameraucanas. I think the new TN director for the Ameraucana club raises them, actually. I looked her up last night. Now to find more room for a new project, LOL!!

Troyerchicks, how are your little chicks doing?

lemuckley_flock, welcome aboard!

Well, hopefully we'll get some better weather coming here in the next few days! Get out your rakes and shovels! We have a lot of work to do.

No chicks..problem is the PO has no idea where to look until someone scans the box again..the last scan was Monday evening in Ft Worth. They have an alert out on the tracking # but it won't show until it's scanned...so helpful

Lets see who will want to scan the stinky box

Jenski-the answer to your space problem is just 2 houses and a winning lottery ticket away from me

ok winning lottery ticket and someplace with 70 degree weather year around..lets go

Holly - that is crazy about your chicks lost in the mail. That just scares me all the more about 'ordering' opposed to 'picking up'. I'm feeling coop challenged myself, I keep staring at the wood and wondering how to build this thing.

Jenski - I see alot of good weather in your future ... so get that garden going *smile*

Troyerchicks - I say to heck with math ... and just keep all the chicks you can comfortably house and feed . Speaking of which I need to DECIDE on my coop plans .... I'm trying to design for future growth in mind - LOL.

1newegg - what to go on 8 days down ... keep up the great job and your lungs will thank you.

Welcome 'lemuckley_flock '!!!! your going to love it here on the forum. The funny thing about chickens is you get a bunch and then downsize, then get a bunch and downsize, over and over - LOL.

Jenski - our chicks are doing great but no so little anymore. They've also entered the "not so cute" faze. Feathers are coming in well but splotchy! LOL They are not very happy with me right now either. Had to take them out to clean their brooder and replace food and water. They cursed me for taking them out and then attacked the food dish like it had been AGES since they last ate. 10 minutes seems like a long time I guess!

I also have a bad feeling that the extra chick (prduction red?) may be a roo. Good news is I may have a home for it. It's an aggressive little thing and charges my hand whenever I reach in to do anything.

The big girls are enjoying the weather outside! (well, not yesterday) Also figured out that they love pears!

I'm going to try to make it to the April meet-up but just found out that my son's very first baseball game is that day too!

1newegg - Congrats!!! Quiting is hard but so worth it!

Shelly_WNC - I have one more breed I'm looking at and then will have to stop (for a bit
big_smile.png
) That'll give us a total of 14-15 chickens which is a good number for our tractor and still very comfortable in our coop. I say all this but I know it will change if I ever go to a poultry show or out to HBuehlers again!

We are getting ready to build a new coop to house our new chicks too. My husband is not too handy, so I decided that a PVC run would work out best for us. We're using free plans that were originally intended for a greenhouse. I've seen a few people here on BYC use the same or similar plans. Not crazy about the look of PVC, but I'll get used to it.

I just took some more pictures of our cute little additions. Now if I could just find the ones we're not keeping some good homes! I've put an ad on craigslist so I'm hoping they'll find some new homes soon.

Blue Wheaten/Wheaten Ameraucana-- our only one that hatched. I have some more of these in the incubator along with some eggs from our white Silkie.

The sun is just barely poking through. I can't wait until tomorrow, supposed to be beautiful weather! My daffodils have started sprouting but are wilting with the amount of rain and lack of sun... We'll be doing some square foot gardening this year too. We've already got our boxes built, just waiting to add the soil and the plants. If only this yucky weather would be over with already!
