I think he mentioned having a few golden cuckoo maran roos needing homes.

Those are two different varieties. You shouldn't cross them. I have more roos than I need really but I am not ready to part with one yet. I have a splash cuckoo I am using now and I have 2 younger ones growing out. They had their tails picked out so I have no idea what kinda tail either one has till they grow in. I have sever little roos I am sure... just don't know how old they are as I have not looked. I just gave some away a month ago.

Since you are looking for feathered legs you have a tall order to find one of breeding age. Do you want me to look at my young ones? They are free if I have one I would part with.

I did the same thing a few months ago - early morning - still in my jammies - I pulled too hard when I closed the door of the run behind me and the lock on the outside of the door clicked into place. I yelled at the top of my lungs - but my husband was inside the house with the TV on. There was no way he'd hear me. Finally I found a small stick that I could weave through the inch-wide hardware cloth opening to lift the latch. It took several tries but I finally got it open. Lesson learned: I never go out to the coop without my cell phone - and I keep a stick inside the run so I can open the door if it ever locks behind me again.

Glad your experience turned out okay - and that the tub didn't overflow! LOL! And yes - It was my husband's fault, too - like how dare he be inside the house and not hear me yelling when I got myself stuck in the chicken run!?

Well, I am embarred to say I got locked inside the chicken coop today!! I was not a happy camper, needless to say. I went to visit momma hen and her chicks. I go inside the coop and the door closes behind me. No big deal, except yesterday my daughter twisted the the wire pull cord that runs in the coop. I pull to get out and nothing... The wire was hung on something. I was in my pajamas, and no one was home.

There is stick with a hook on the end that we use to open the doors that I try to reach the latch, but no luck. Then I remember I left the bathtub running because it takes a while to fill up. I freaked out and start ripping out staples securing the hardware cloth over the windows. I finally am able to reach my hand thru the window to lift the latch. The tub was 2 inches from overflowing!! This was not how I wanted to start my day. I can laugh about it, but I was not happy, and of course somehow it was my husband's fault!

Here is a picture of the coop to give you a visual.

It's 10:30 pm my chickens have been on roost since right before dark, J.W. my rooster is crowing. He does this periodically. Any ideas why other than he's a ROO? I've checked the coop nothing out there or in it except what's supposed to be... chickens.

Can he see car lights?

Possibly, they do have window that faces the road. However the roost are higher than the window. The pop door is left open so they can get food & water. Plus the road is over 1/10 of a mile from the coop. How good is a roosters vision?

but light can travel further than you think. I don't know if mine crow at night, but I know I have heard them crow at night when we have gone to the farm at night or with flashlights in the coops.

I did bring home some roos to sell or something and they crowed at night.
