RBA Rare Breeds Auction is a good place I think... GFF uses them. Still will not be cheap.

Spent the am working on partitioning my largest coop-pen so I have a place to move the NYD Hatchlings asap,
I'm seeing a lot of ppl putting biddies out earlier in colder weather than I've ever considered,
so perhaps I'll not have to have them in my bathtub for weeks & weeks & weeks.

Right now my plan is:
1.)Hatch& dry in bator, brood in bathtub for a couple days depending on weather,
2.)move to near the house wooden brooder I built last spring (set near electical for heat lamp)
3.)move to their portion of coop-pen asap --not certain when? depends on weather weather could be anywhere from -20F to 80F !!! in Jan, Feb, Mar even both w/in 3 days time!! -impossible to plan.

But I want to get them into the coop-pen as soon as possible b/c they will eventually be part of the laying flock currently in that pen, so this way they will grow up side by side.
I'm hoping that will help when the day comes to mix them. On that day I will have to make a tough choice about who gets to be the flock rooster.
I have such a soft spot for "Handsome" the mutt I have in there now. He spent several weeks as a young chick in the house & later 10 out of 13 of those chicks (pullets point-of-lay) got stolden.
He is a really nice Roo, never aggressive toward ppl, cats, dogs etc, dances for the hens and never tears them up like other Roos I've had, heck I recently just moved him from a smaller pen where he tolerated 2 random little chicks that turned out to be cockerals and I never once saw him go after them in any way. But, he doesn't fit into my future plans so I'm gonna have to rehome him in spring or build another other coop-pen for my apparently pet Roo oops.

Handsome was just regrowing after molt in these, I'll need to take new pics. he was looking much nicer today than these...

Just found out from the Nashville chicken group UCAN that the Chicken Whisperer (the guy with the national backyard poultry radio show) is coming to town to meet with Tractor Supply headquarters in Brentwood. They are organizing a dinner Tuesday night 7PM at the Shoney's on HWY 70 in Bellevue and he's joining the group to talk chickens if anyone is interested......I hate Shoney's...LOL...but may go just to talk to him and pick his brain.
Let me know if anyone wants to come and I'll RSVP for them
