Hm, Blue marans?

Did you mean Blue Laced Marans??????? I am thinking that would take a couple of generations to show the lacing. The Partridge roo and the BLRW would show lacing right off since they both have those genes...... YOU WANT some from a Marans cross????? I can arrange that if you do. BUT they have to start laying again.

Well, Idk, I wasnt thinking of color, just the fertility thing. And my old marans roo sure did a good job of that. BUT a laced MARAN!!!

But yea, I would do partridge over blrw. prettier babies

I just wanted to see what everybody thought of the show in Sparta. I had a blast. I can not wait until next year.

I was wondering does anybody know if they ever have shows in Overton or Dekalb County ?

I thought the show was great I didnt win anything but I sold 6 birds and bought 7. Wish we would have met.

Help !!! this is my first time to post on BYC I don't know whether I am in the right place or not so please tell me if I am not. My question is a avery novice one
I have 12 hens mostly production reds that are pretty much the same age I figure , I bought them at the local feed store with the tag on each that they are all most old enough to start laying any day that has been a couple of months now and I get a couple eggs a week and the same holds true with my 2 roosters they don't crow at all and they for sure seem to be old enough. I had a goup of chickens I raised from day olds to egg laying age and they laid like crazy and the roosters crowed like a rock band but mr. Coon killed them one night I have since spent a fortune coon proofing my coop. so now I have the Ft. Knox of pens but no egg production or rooster crwoing what I am doing wrong ? The birds are healthy

Sam,

Delayed maturity can be caused by a number of things. Feed/Diet is one, both all along correct nutrition % protein etc, but also are the girls getting enough calcium to make good eggshells (free choice oyster shell offered to them seperate from feed will clear up that concern w/o overdoing it for your males)

But the timing can also be affected by when the chicks hatched, if they hatched after the Spring Equinox then even though they are the correct number of weeks to be mature often times due to the shorter daylight when they _should_ mature and start to lay they simply don't and this delay can just be a short while or it can be until well after Winter Solstice when the daylight gets longer. The later they were hatched, and the more cloudy overcast the weather when they _should be old enough the more likely they will simply wait for winter to pass. This isn't a hard & fast thing, it is more individual per bird some lay at week# whatever, some are very keyed on sunshine -- you can add fish oil or other sources of Vit. D to their feed or you can try some hours of artifical light to fake longer days. Winter Solstice is this week, Dec 21, so days will get longer soon :)

I would also add that locally in TN my own and several other flocks have responded to the out of season temp./weather of 2013 by going into early molt for the hens or delayed laying for pullets. Basically we had the extream heat/drought, followed by a sudden change to overcast/rain for a month just before Fall Equinox and 4 pullets who should have started laying then simply did not, I've had 6 eggs from them since Sept, with one starting to lay more regularly just this week. None of my hens have layed since Sept but I'm hopeful they will re-start shortly after Dec 21.

I hope this info. is useful for you. Don't give up hope :)
