It would still help until he found a better roo, like she said, it makes up for the ones without feathering.

What she said ^Someone else wanted one too..... she even put an ad on CL looking for one. I would use him to hatch from and grow me up a NEW Flock so they ALL had feathered legs. You get clean legs and middle toe feathers even with correctly feather birds.
Thanks for your response, it sure makes sense, since I posted the note I heard my boys crow. another couple of questions if I may , my pen os 10' x 20' with a metal roof over the entire pen I put railroad ties on the ground then filled the center with dirt to have a raised bed coop, so I have aprox 200 sq ft I have a three sided plywood box 4' x 4' x 7' tall for the birds to get into out of any wind or cold,on the inside I have mounted 6 5 gallion buckets with a special made top with a cut out door opening and a plastic molded perch to me the openings seem to small for the hens to get into, but again I admit I am a learning novice. All the birds go into the enclosure but none in the nest box's yet. I seem to have now 2 roosters a buff and a production red and 11 hens should i thin them down some? or is the 200 sq. ft enough for the 13 birds? I keep grit in a hanging container for the chickens to have free choice, I have not tried the oyster sheel but will get some, I feed them Purina layena crumbles , Is this enough or should I graduate to a better feed. I really enjoy my time with my chickens and have learned a bunch about coon proofing a coop my wife says if I add uo all the money I have invested in my coop and replacing the chickens the coons got that first egg is problably worth a thousand or so. LOL
once i get this first group laying eggs in a timely manner I want to try my hand with some pure breeds I like the marans a lot
Once again thank you for your advice.
