The Middle Tennessee Thread

Hello all - we were in TSC in Smyrna this evening and it looked like they had two buff/white silkies in the bantam tank. Just thought I'd pass along - wished I could have taken them home with me but we are already at our limit. ;-) This was at closing time so I am sure they will still be there early tomorrow.

Good evening all!

Had a crazy night and had to go to ER. Forgot to put the top on our grow-out brooder in the house. Came home to my cat chick-sitting. When they get out he herds them back in lol. Grabbed a quick snap of him staring down one of our runts roosting on top.

Good cat.... don't eat them

Is everything ok?

He hasn't ever hurt one.

My son had a hamster awhile back and he wouldn't even hurt it when it got out. The worst he ever did was bring it to me (unharmed) and "bop" it a few times on the head with his paw. He's declawed, and I don't think he knows he's a cat. I bottle raised him and he's almost 3 yrs old, 18lbs of spoiled fur. He plays fetch, likes water, and when my daughter was an infant he would fuss at people if they got near her. Now he guards chickens lol. I don't think we've ever had a normal cat...

Everything is okay. My 2yr old daughter is medically complex and has a laundry list of things going on. She has a port in her stomach for feeding/medication and she had a sudden onset of cellulitis, so we had to make a Vanderbilt trip. The ER doc wanted to admit, but the surgeon knows us and knows that she does better at home, so we're home for 48hrs on 2 antibiotics and if she improves we get to stay home, if not- they'll admit for IV antibiotics. She's on about 20 doses a day of RX already, what's 6 more?

She's in a really good mood tho, so I'm thankful for that.

I can't believe it snowed the whole drive home... isn't is spring?

We are now 2 weeks in to our new chicken adventures. We did quite a bit of research before actually purchasing our chicks and bringing home two layers. We had a coop built already but added a run this past weekend. I am so addicted to chickens now! lol Glad to know there are quite a few others in mid Tn.

After candling, I'm pretty sure only 1 egg out of the 3 left continued to develop after the power went out.

I've tried to go ahead and set my son up for none hatching, talking to him about the possibilities, probabilities, and mathematical statistics that go into an egg developing fully to hatching. He's very literal for a 7yr old so I'm hoping it helps. We're definitely going to try some more eggs at some point. He's been WAY into this.

Our 6 chicks are doing great tho. They are getting big now. :)

Sorry you didn't have any luck. Let me know if you want to try again.
