Please keep me in mind Donna it looks like I'm running out of options I will use a birchen before I add a feathered cuckoo with gold leakage. Your cuckoo's look good nice feathered legs. I will get them feathered one way or another.

I was looking at the Australia Marans site and I swear the cuckoos look like they are birchen..... I liked the look. Not sure I should breed that way.... I think they are supposed to look more like a BR kinda even cuckoo all over. Scroll to the bottom where the cuckoos are.

Thank goodness now you know where I'm headed. The MARANS breed I am finding is just nuts when it comes to the he said she said stuff.

Take a look here same photo I haven't seen a Cuckoo hen yet with those wondeful lighter colored hackles. It even talks about using an ER/ER based bird. Cuckoo marans are E/E based birds add the S gene and now you have silver cuckoo marans. The S gene also removes the gold/red and intensifies the silver white color in the hackle, back, shoulder, and lancets. Those birds in that photo are what i'm after I been trying to tell ya'll

The french marans club and the aussie both use the same darn pic. I have two tabs pulled up clicking back and forth between them. The photo is much sharper on the Marans of America Club....They really look good. I'm gonna go ahead with my birchen plan ha ha now the race is on. I'll use my chunky monkey hens that lay xxl eggs

I have been told that Silver cuckoo's haven't been created as well as Goldens. Both pics on either site clearly descibe the pic as silver cuckoo's.

OK SLOW DOWN! That birchen look is NOT what the standard is going to be here..... they should look like a BR hen even barring all over. Those chickens DO have birchen in them I think BUT that is NOT they way they should look. Notice in your goldens they way the barring is? that is the way Cuckoos should look too. Bev Davis told you about that.... She is helping write the standard and the Marans club you are looking at is NOT writing the standard.

BTW no one on the cuckoo thread answered your question about silvers.... Silver Cuckoos are TOTALLY different and they are VERY VERY VERY Rare here in the US, well all over really.

There will be Cuckoo (reg like my roo) Golden and Silver like these
