Picked up my Buff silkie hen today from Anne YEAH now I have a pair! Meeting up with Becky tomorrow for a partridge silkie pullet too. Got to get some feed while I am there. Kill 2 birds with one stone kinda thing hehe

Got a message from the neighbor about 3 telling me the power had been off since 11 am...... My incubator and hatcher (due saturday) were in the lower and mid 60's when I got there. We put a kerosene heater in the room but when we were leaving it came back on. YEAH.... now if all the eggs are OK..... I hope it just slowed them down and didn't kill anything.

So either my hens started laying black walnuts or I have a squirrel stashing his lunch in one of my nest boxes...

My 16 hens must have been angry with me for shutting them up in the coop on Tuesday. They only gave me 5 eggs Wednesday. With the nicer weather, they are back to giving me 10 eggs a day.

How did the rest of you fair? I can imagine we're all happy with the nicer weather!

We have 4 of 8 laying right now- got 3 this morning. I accidentally sent 3 ladies into a moult by shutting up the coop when it got real cold. Apparently there was enough light from the security light to keep them from full blown moulting. Our last is simply being stubborn. We have had her since July, her combs and waddles have been bright red for weeks now, but she just won't get around to laying us an egg. I maylet her overhear me talk about making soup today and see if she responds.

my birds know how to use nipples. ALL of them have been on nipples since about 4 weeks old. they are not going to play with them.

if you have reg water in there take it out....they will go for reg water over nipples all the time.
