I lost my last hatched chick I helped out last night. It wouldn't drink or eat. So my first attempt at incubating my own wasn't so great. 19 chicks out of 48 eggs. I will change the humidity next time. I will not add water for the first 18 days then I'll fill all the trays up. I lost 6 in the shell 2 where zipped but couldn't get out the other 4 had their little beaks out of the shell. Then I helped the last 4 out. 3 of 4 of them are doing well. If I hadn't marked them I wouldn't know which ones where last.

We had four mutt bantam chicks hatch on Saturday! I was not expecting anything to hatch from this hen. They are all cochin and sikie mixed (two pure cochin hens, a silkie mixed hen with two cochin roos and two cochin x silkie roos). Only one has black skin, two have straight combs, two have smooth combs, all have four toes and the legs are feathered like a cochin. They are adorable! Three eggs didn't hatch: two were quitters, and one (the LF Olive Egger) would have hatched given a day or two

I have a BA hen that usually hatches turkeys for me sitting on seven eggs. Due in two weeks!!!

Is it miserably hot for everyone today?

Yes, it's going to hit 90 here today and no A/C it's broken ;-{ Capasitor is to blame I think. It was replaced last Jan as well as a blower for the same reason. Hope it isn't the blower motor again. It's hard to find for this unit and expencive.

No I don't think it works that way. Donna will chime in and tell us in a minute she knows more than me on the sex-links but, I am pretty sure if your roo is the cuckoo you can get either or on the chicks. With the hens being cuckoo they can only pass the barring to the roos.

A cuckoo or barred roo has 2 copies of the gene and will pass it off to 100% of the chicks. Hens can only pass it off to roos since it is sex linked.
