Oh Lord….does that mean I'm going to have to start incubating, because I'm not giving up my salted caramel chocolate!

Your confused.

You crunch those gooey pretzels WHILE you watch the little guys hatch. Or maybe you eat a few when you set them. Then, as the anxiety grows, as day 21 gets closer you do nervous eating of yummy pretzels and salted caramel chocolate. Chocolate for sadness, anxiety, boredom, celebration. It fits every occasion.

I didn't know you could set early or late. I wanted to do the EHAL but I felt like I shouldn't wait that long as some of these eggs were laid on the 6th. If I waited till tomorrow then I could still do it? I just put them in the incubator about 20 min ago. I had checked the air cells and let them sit in a carton for about 7 hours then I set them standing up in the incubator about 20 min ago. I had read about the HAL but I didn't see about the early or late. Oh well, there is always next year. Can I do the March HAL or does that have to be set on the 1st? Or do they have to hatch in March? I guess these will be April babies.
The official date and time is March 14, at 12:00 noon. Here is what I copied from Happy Chooks, post on page 288, who is the moderator.

We had to make a hard deadline for the contests, and tracking the numbers. (which isn't easy) Otherwise, we'd never be able to close out the Guess How Many Contests. We chose the +/- 2 days several years ago, and for the most part, it's worked really well and gives people some flexibility on setting their eggs.

There are a bunch of contests too!

I should have waited till noon tomorrow then. I had missed that part about the 2 days and I was afraid to wait till the 14th. Thanks for letting me know. I actually got my shipment moved up due to the EHAL but I haven't done this before and didn't know how long it would take to come in the mail or when the dates were that they would be laid. The shipper was great to write the date on each egg. they were laid on the 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th. Then shipped on the 9th and got here this morning.

Excited to be found. I'm having chicks in April too. Got my first in April of last year.

We are getting an olive Egger, Easter Egger, Buff Orpington and a Barred Rock. I really wish I had orderd a Black cooper Maran as well now.

How many chickens do you have and how many are you getting in April?

I have 16 pullets- BarredRock, blue laced red Wyandotte, crested cream Legbar, and a mix of CCL and white leghorn. I have two cockerels that are CCL and BLRW but I don't have them separated by breed. None of my pullets seem to want to be broody so I bought an inexpensive incubator and just had to try it out. So I took some of my eggs and put them in it and now have chicks in the brooder 7 that I hatched and 3 cuckoo marans that I bought at the co-op. I have 15 Black Java eggs in the incubator now. They are shipped eggs. I had been studying up on a really good dual purpose breed and decided to give them a try. Not too many people have them and that appealed to me too. But one thing I really like is having lots of colors in my egg basket. That's why I added those marans. Hope theirs will be dark. I'm guessing some of my brooder chicks,if girls, will lay olive eggs. We'll see. I know you will enjoy your chicks.
