The Middle Tennessee Thread

You need to rub along the groove where the tendon would normally sit and try to get it to pop back into place. If you can, tape it so it stays there and then check it in a few days. If it stays in place when you remove the tape, you're good to go. If it doesn't, repeat and leave the tape on longer the second go around. Good luck!

Thanks. I can't figure it out. The joint is so swollen. I soaked in epson salts and tried to manipulate it, but can't tell what is swollen tissue and where the tendon is.

Hello! I am considering starting meat chickens. Is there a recommended processor in Middle TN? I am south of Franklin, if that helps.

Anyone else have them? Where do you get your stock?

Thanks!

I use Niko & Co between McMinnville and Sparta. The huge advantage to using a USDA inspected place like Niko is that you can sell your meat legally. I've got a batch of organic/grass fed Cornish Cross heading there in a few weeks. I got my Cornish Cross from Hoover's hatchery and I have no complaints. I can tell you from this first experience that you will lose lots of chicks to leg problems starting around 10 days old. Hoover recommends only putting food in front of them 10 hours a day so they don't eat themselves to death. If I decide to raise a batch of meat chicks next year, I think I will try a slower growing breed like Rainbows.
I have Bresse chicks growing out so that i can start raising them next year for meat birds. I'm excited about that breed!

Quote: I have not seen any great MEAT bird look to the Bresse. They look a lot like a heaver WL. They are not as big as my rocks or most of my other breeds. Not sure they are worth the meat bird breed they are sold as. We will see. Need to sort them so I can collect eggs.

Question.... not chickens

Several years ago we visited a farm that raised heirloom tomatoes, peppers, egg plants.... maybe something else. It was in Dickson my hubby thinks but I am not sure. They had a tomato tasting once a year..... anybody know the place I am talking about? I don't know the name of it.
