Hey Nella, how much? I'm really wanting a broody since I have such a small bator, are they known to be good broodys? Like brood til they hatch the babies?

I thought cochins would be best but noone seems to have any for a decent price, you know? Not made of money

O, I sound like my mom.... I only want 1 for now... just in case any of mine decide they want to try it out...

No, Holly, she wants those two AM hens you are looking to sell. She wants to grow her own eggs.

I just emailed her and she was very enthusiastic about wanting both the blue and the black hen. Sadly, I don't think she wants the black roo.

You know... one of us is going to have to break down and build the Home for Wayward Roosters. Between us all we have a bazillion of them needing homes! Darn roosters. Maybe Jenski's new farm can have a Wayward Rooster corner.

Sounds like several of us are after the same birds!lol. It would have to be afternoon tomorrow, because we go to church in Bowling Green(early service)and won't be home till 12 or so. But anytime after that would be fine. My number is 615-323-9311(home) AND MY CELL IS 615-516-2118 so just call me Tomorrow if you want to meet then or leave a message here if you want to wait till later.

Actually I hadn't even thought about it but I have a Rhode Island Red/Cochin cross hen who was recently broody and was a GREAT MOM. I took her away from her children at about 6 weeks old as I needed to combine batches of babies and she wanted to ensure death on anything not her own lol.

She is a young hen.....I think she is about 10 months old? And went broody less than a month after she started laying. She is the daughter of my crazy super duper broody barred cochin hen, crossed with my old RIR rooster. She did an exceptional job for a first time broody....I actually had to take eggs from another hen and stick them under her.....they were due before her own, so as the chicks hatched out, I would remove them and give them to a different hen. She continued to sit all the way until all of her own eggs hatched (and she hatched all 10 of 10 eggs she was sitting on).

You're gonna make me choose between the two?

I like the first ones because I like the white with black spots (I thought it was unique) and eggs are nice too. But I also like the 2nd because shes successfully hatched chicks
hmm.png
and looks like she'd be a good broody.... Hmmm, what's the price for each? You can send me a message if you want about price

Hmmmm, I already seem to have a one of those! And boy does that make my neighbors happy, LOL!!

I sure do love my little guys, though. Had a naughty Cooper's hawk actually strike the side of one of the banty pens this morning while I was having my coffee. By the time I pulled on my boots and headed outside, Remy had already rounded up all the girls and chased them inside, and he was standing out in the pen with his chest all puffed out. He looked like a little soldier strutting around. Brave boy! - - especially since the hawk didn't leave, it just perched in a nearby tree until the dog and I shooed it away.

Here's the problem with the white/black ones. I have 4 of them. One is blind on one side so I will keep her. The other 3....1 of them has been broody a couple times and did GREAT each time. 1 of them was broody along with her and then gave it up and let her keep the kids. And the 3rd went broody but quit before hatching. I HAVE NO IDEA WHICH IS WHICH. And its entirely possible they've all raised chicks....I do know that every time their is a pair of them broody (they tend to go broody in pairs and raise them together) the same hen is always the main mom. I'm just not sure which hen it is! LOL

They are older than the rir/cochin girl....these girls were hatched out fall 09. Cochin/RIR was hatched March 10. The RIR/Cochin is bigger and could probably cover more eggs (i had her on about 14 lf at one point). she was a very aggressive broody
wink.png
She didn't want anything botherin her cute little babies. She did a really good job as a broody. She has more of a laidback cochin temperament than the others....they have more of a leghorn temperament, just happen to be good broodies too.

I would sell any of the above for $12 for 1 or $10 each if you took more than one......see what I did there? LOL.

@ Nella - O snap! That means I'd have to get 2!!
hide.gif
good thing DH is asleep... I can't pay more than $10 per hen, (hence why I've had trouble finding one
tongue.png
) Once I sell 2 meaties to my grandmother (she's been waiting on my lazy butt to bring em from the freezer) I'll be able to get 2, one cochin one dalmation hen... I'll have to sneak out to the "feed store"

roll.png
