Ok so for my first Show I went to Dalton...What fun met so many people Mary Robins, Kathy Duckett, Vicky Harry, Jack Fergerson, Amiee Crago...and I don't remember them all but I learned ALOT about silkies today that i didn't know...I also got a black from Amiee and 2 splashes from Vicky....and a few little babies from Tish...they all look very promising

Now I could really get used to days like today!!

We spent almost all day outside working on the garden - just working the soil and getting it ready. The chickens LOVED this - they recieved quite a bit of bugs!! Can't wait until tomorrow! I know they say rain but as long as it's warm!!! (Can you tell I'm ready for Spring??)
Broke it to my husband that I wanted to try Buckeyes. I explained that we don't really have 12 chickens, that it's more like 10 and 1/2 and 1/2. The bantam cochins don't use alot of room at all! And the eggs are smallish. And ...and....

Not to mention the fact that he really wanted 15 to begin with. Just giving him what he wants!

I wish I could have been there...instead I spent the day cleaning the chick house and selling chickens...Also got a few pens moved around new chicks coming soon now

I'll save the house cleaning for all the rainy days coming up soon

Well, hope everyone who went to Dalton had a great time. Give us all the gory details!
Did anyone show their birds?
Around how many birds were there?
Did you see many breeds you had never seen before?
Was it still heavy on the OEGB?
Were there any national-quality silkies?
Any d'Uccle colors other than Mille Fleur?
How about the bantam cochins? Colors? Quality?

And of course . . . what'dja bring home?? Pics if you got 'em!

While I did not get to see all those lovely banties, I did get to see my amazingly gorgeous niece in a play. She even got out there and sang solo! (That entertainer gene must have come from her mother's side of the family. My people would rather be drawn and quartered than stand on stage.)

I still remember the first time I held that child when she was just a couple of months old, bald as a cue ball and grinning ear to ear like a tiny, joyful Buddha, LOL! Can't believe 13 years have flown by since that day . . .

Well, looks like we're for rain again today. I imagine we were all hoping for a repeat of Saturday, eh! Would have been nice. I'll bet we'll get a few more nice days in March, though. Enjoy the rest of the weekend, and don't forget to change your clocks if you haven't already!

Jenski - that is awesome about your niece , they grow up so fast it's amazing. Heck for that matter look how fast we all grew up. I can't believe I already have a grandbaby - and he is just to adorable too.

Troyerchicks - I can see you doing the 'chicken math' over there - how hilarious.

1newegg - glad to hear you had a great time. I really wanted to go but couldn't muster up the energy to wake up early and do the long drive.

Instead we went to 'trade day' at the Rutherford co-op. It was 'ok'. There were two alpaca (for $6K each) and they were adorable to watch, but WAY out of my price range. Some farmers stuffed so many large fowl in one cage it made me sick really. But we found a few better farmers and bought two pairs of bantams for $15 a pair, one Japanesse and one something else (thought the guy said brahma but it doesn't look like one to me). We also picked up four baby keets (3 days old) to keep our one lone hatched chick company and that worked great. The chick is SO HAPPY now that it has friends it's amazing the difference, it's eating better and running around with the others and it doesn't look so sickly anymore. I am SO HAPPY too!!

FarmerVal - those are both two breeds I always wanted. I am VERY interested!!

Holly - I will pick up that black/silver accurite hygrometer next time I make it to Walmart and try again. There will be a HUGE celebration once I get this incubation successfully. The scary thing is by time I get it figured out I'll probably have 100's of chickens - LOL . Is that how you got addicted ? *smile*

Well I feed all the animals and did some rabbit cage cleaning and bucket cleaning this morning ... now I need to build some coops/runs for these new bantam pairs.

They're here!!!

Mystery chick, RIR bantam? It is smaller than it looks in this picture. Its between the sizes of the leghorns, RIRs and Sumatras and sebrights.

I hope you are all having as good a day as we are!!!

Ohhh they are so fluffy and adorable cluckyjay!

Here is the rooster of the bantam pair I bought yesterday in Murfreesboro. Does anyone know what this is? The guy said something about Brahma but I am not so sure about that.
