Welcome, Alaina! You'll enjoy this Middle TN bunch.

I agree about the weather! Today's the first time I've worn jeans since spring. The chickens look wet, though. I told my husband we needed to hurry up and build the bigger coop so they'll have more room inside on rainy and/or cold days.

Got my first DOUBLE YOLKER!!!!!! That egg was huge! and from a NH pullet too!

Got to get some more of those NH they are pretty and lay a giant egg... maybe the 8 eggs I have in the incubator from the neighbor are 100% NH and not 1/2 Yokahama.

Today is day 14...still fine tuning the hatcher. Last check the temp with baskets was at 97 but I raised the thermostat and humidity was 70%. Maybe the humidity is due to the weather I really want it down to 65%. The clock is ticking....

I have to finish the brooders too

Last night I opened the windows and that was the first good night sleep I have had this year!!!! (remember I have an 8 mth old, but it was mostly the heat, he has slept through the night since he was 3 mths

Enjoy the weather

Congratulations, Donna! I got my first double yolker last week - and it was from my NH pullet, too! Mine consistently gives me the biggest egg of my 7 layers. Mine reminds me of "The Little Red Hen" and is the friendliest of all mine.

I have pullet eggs from the RIR Roo X NH may not have been a bad thing after all. Since I don't have any RIR pullets any body want that roo??? I would gladly replace him with a NH Roo if I can find one. I don't know how well the Production reds are going to lay but they seem aggressive, but I really am liking these NH and my raise them exclusively as my main brown layer. My neighbor loves brown eggs so is he going to be surprised when he see the size of these new eggs!!!!

Just got the email that my four Araucana chicks were shipped this morning. I'm ridiculously excited about that! They should get here tomorrow. I worry about them being in the mail system in this bad weather...and I'm keeping my fingers crossed they arrive safely. I'm hoping I get at least two pullets out of the four.

Hey guys

the weather is great. One of my mille fluer d'uccle hens just started laying sunday. My winter coop for the hens only has to be insulated now and i put the hens in it yesterday and they would like the yard a whole lot better if it wasn't raining.

everything is just good. Oh and does anyone by chance have a mille fluer d'uccle rooster??? I need a new one.

As dark as those eggs are they will be nice olive color I would think.

Candled again today and everything was growing great. the one I though was growing didn't so I still have 31. I put 14 more in

I keep thinking the rule of 50/50 (my rule anyway) 50% will hatch and 50% will be roos so got to keep the eggs going to get the pullet supply up. Most of the 14 will be mostly Blue and some Black barred rocks.

My neighbor! I think she has several she is trying to sell. I can call her if you want. I think she is asking $15 but i am not sure. I am getting a big roo and a couple of pullets from her soon. They are just the cutest things.
