The Middle Tennessee Thread

Any of you middle tennesseers need a setting bantam hen.. She is half jap bantam and half cochin bantam. She is buff blacktailed in color and has a few feathers on her legs.. She is a good setter and a good mother.. She is the only non game on my yard...

What I did today?
Well, i was so anticipating going to the Bantam Show in Calhoun, GA because I was hoping to find some nice bantam cochins. WELL, nooooooooooo not the first one from show or outside for sale.
Total waste of time & gas should have gone to the Cookeville sale!

I am new to this, just since spring, so is it just the time of year or are bantam cochins just harder to come by?

I am not into showing but I do want nice quality ones, not hatchery thus why I won't buy any from any of them.

next spring I will have lavender and lavender mottled split eggs and maybe chicks for sale...now they are not the greatest quality but they have a nice roundness to them and great feathered legs. PM me if interested.

What did I do today? Our church's fall festival is tonight, and I'm in charge of the "Country Store." Been getting stuff ready for that yesterday and today. I've canned about 19 jars of basil jelly - which is really good mixed with mustard or barbecue sauce and used to glaze chicken or pork or salmon. Then I baked 8 loaves of Italian herb bread - which is delicious toasted with a poached egg on top (my breakfast this morning). I also baked 18 small pear tarts and 4 peach tarts - using fruit from our trees. As a result of the above cooking/baking, I've run about 4 loads in the dishwasher since yesterday. I'm tired! My husband just called and told me he picked 13 gallons of muscadines at his mother's house in Georgia. So that'll keep me busy next week. I'm trying to figure out what to do with muscadines besides make muscadine jam.

Do any of you have some POL pullets that you'd sell me? I'd love to have some more EEs. It has to be from someone who is NPIP, though, since I am, too. I think I'm going to have to drop two or three of my egg customers. The chickens are slowing down - only got 8 eggs yesterday. I guess they know fall is getting close.
My husband LOVED the wine he made with those grapes. He lived in GA and a friend had some and he could have all he wanted.

I have lots of near POL pullets.... I could probably come up with about ten if I needed to.... but ALAS.... I am not NPIP.... sorry.

Muscadine wine. But you might need some more to make a big batch. With 13 gal. I think you'd get about 2 or 3 gallons.

the next sale in cookville is in november. i think it is november 9th. i will post on here when i know for sure.

Thanks all - it's such a crap shoot for me to make the 2hr. drive up there to take a chance there are no cochins. At this point, I am willing to pay some pretty good money to get some good ones shipped but as I said I'm just not sure this is the norm. for bantan cochins or if I just hold out until spring to see if there are more around.
I really wanted to be in good shape come spring so I could see some good egg production. My current 6 are getting close but I wanted a few more colors by spring to start a breeding program of some sort.
