The Middle Tennessee Thread

Can anyone take a guess at the breed of these? A lady from the Adventure Science Center in Nashville wants me to take one......she can only have 6 at her house and these were born and raised at the Center and now have to have a new home.

BTW......it was suggested to me by my guy at the co-op that I take my Silkie roo to the Triune flea market to find him a home.....I did and will never go back to that place again!! They had their laying hens 7 to a cage the same size I put one in.....there were people lined up to buy them at $5 each, most were gold sex links....then the farmers put 3-4 of them head first into potato sacks and tied off the ends and that's how these people took them home......

I told them mine was not for sale and brought him back home immediately......he's staying here. When I put him back in the yard his little silkie girlfriend ran to him and they danced around each other, it was so cute.

I'll deal with the neighbors if the issue comes up.....maybe I'll take them some eggs and have a talk.

Good for you. I too went to a flea market with the intention of seeing what chickens were there, one time, saw the same thing and vowed I would never take any of mine ever to flea market to sale nor buy any at a flea market.

How sweet about his girlfriend. Hope it works out but if for some reason it doesn't and you can't find anyone close by and if you ever make it to the Chattanooga area, my daughter could take him in. She has other silkies, as well as many other bantam breeds, he would fit right in and be treated very well. : )

Thanks Stacy.....It really upset me to see that. I'm sure there are some reputable flea markets that don't do that, but like you I will never go there again and won't trust others completely. I'll stick to the tried and true, my friends on BYC!!!

I have definitely decided to keep Hobert...he and Hattie are just too devoted to each other.
