...I would have been speechless....alot of them email you that junk so that they think you will definately reply back so that they can get your real email address and send you more spam....you really have to watch who you email back....I tell them to leave a phone number sometimes and just call them instead.....I can block calls easier ...if they are serious they don't mind emailing their number....LOL

I get all kinds of weird replies with my ad and a ?????? after... really, you think I am going to reply to that. If they can't read my ads, they can't buy my chickens

I made the mistake of going to TSC with a coupon and cash

I bought feeders I didn't really need, but LIKED. Got a couple of waters, gamebird feed, bedding for chicks, a hat for my hubby (he lost it AGAIN and we have not seen it in weeks

)... a few other things. On the bright side, I still have money for feed.

I am going to place an order for next week's truck. Last call on feed. I am getting Pullet Grower 19%, Super layer feed mini pellets 22%, and med chick starter 18% Carol you still want some? and was it Cinny? You don't have to order more than you need. I will be going back in a month or two to get more.

It was me looking for the feed. I am going to skip this one because I have 50 lbs coming Thursday on the Azure Standard truck, but I'm definitely in next time you go. The Super Layer sounds interesting, if my hens ever decide to lay.

I think a bunch of spammers have gotten into Craigslist. The last time I put up an ad (last week), I got an avalanche of emails along the lines of "I'm not interested in what you listed, but since we live near each other, let's get together for a drink." I checked the spam folder in my email and found even more - basically the same message - just worded differently and from different emails. I didn't open any of them - deleted all. Deleted the CL ad, too.

I got that one too Carol, but not nearly as funny as the other one......I am deleting Craigs List too.....there are crazies everywhere!!

Hi all.
Introducing myself - I'm Jessica and I am in Hendersonville. I have been an on-again, off-again lurker on here for about 7-8 months. Got my first batch of chicks about 6 months ago (a rare breed assortment from McMurray). Ended up with all kinds of birds and learned a lot. Culled a bunch of roosters (more to go), lost a few to predators, etc. They are all free ranging and come into the coop at night.
I just culled my 2 Blue Laced Red Wyandottes roos and a Brahma rooster today. I couldn't stand the 5:15-6:00 crowing competition every morning. I still have a bunch of fun birds left:
1 white cochin rooster
2 white langshan roosters and one hen
1 silver penciled rock (he is so pretty I couldn't get myself to kill him this morning)
1 Sumatra rooster and 2 hens
2 White Laced Red Cornish hens
1 Dominique hen (I think)

They are about 6 months old and only ONE is laying, and she has a new hiding spot that we can't find. But still, entertaining. I wanted to join in this thread so I could start to get to know what is available locally and perhaps join in feed orders and things like that. I am thinking about ordering a batch of Freedom Rangers in early spring (first time with a broiler flock) and also considering a true laying flock since my birds from McMurray aren't productive. Has anyone started a layer flock about this time/November before and have any advice for me? I'd love to have early spring layers.

HI Jessica - and welcome to the Middle Tenn thread. You'll find lots of breeds are available around here. I got some chicks around this time last year - and they were laying well by spring. They'll be feathered out well before seriously cold weather gets here.

I'm sure others will offer some suggestions for breeds. I love Easter Eggers because of the egg color and because they're good layers - usually have pretty good temperaments, too. Some sex-links would offer great egg production, too.

Hello Jessica & welcome to the Mid Tenn. thread. As was mentioned above, there's usually someone with some kind of chickens, chicks or hatching eggs for sale in the area. There's a pretty good bunch of folks on here just shout out what your looking for & if they'be got it they'll post up or pm you.
I lived in Hendersonville for 15 years. Nice place but man its growing to fast for me. My neighbors wouldn't have been happy about the morning wake up call from all those ROO's. LOL

well Tin... I just went back and reviewed that pic. It really does look like a face, on the right edge. It's sorta creepy after you find it, it's all you see. The whole thing is actually a little weird cause my wife asked if that was one of the pics from Gordon's Ferry and it was. I asked her why and she said, " that place gave me the creeps", but I loved it there! If WW3 ever goes down I'm heading that way!

BUT...maybe not THAT EXACT spot!

Thanks for the welcome. I have 3 acres, but my neighbor on one side is very close. I feel so guilty every morning! Tomorrow will be peaceful with the culling today, but with so many roosters left it's just a matter of time before the new pecking order is established and the crowing competitions start again!

Jessica like Carol said we are all a bunch of enablers so just let us know what you are looking for and I am sure someone has it. I wouls say you probably have other layers and they are just good at hiding! 6 months old for hatchery stock is quite old enough to be laying. Are your hens combs bright red? Ifthey are you need to go on an easter egg hunt!
