The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

UH-oh what makes this thread bad? I havent found it bad at all, am I missing something?

Maidenwolf - Nothing makes this thread bad. Many of us met on The Road Less Traveled thread which seems to have been shut down now. There are some hurt feelings over someone who left BYC. It's a sad thing, but there are still plenty of us who wish to keep the spirit of that thread going by sharing information on natural ways of keeping chickens.

Nothing at all makes this thread bad. It's just not what the OT's thread or Bee's thread is. No old timers sharing knowledge. The very name, "Natural Chicken Keeping" sounds well, without making anyone mad, wrong. This isn't a replacement for any of those threads that I have always followed. It just isn't.

Oh I see, so everyone is upset that the old thread is no longer active, I was occassionally on that thread, so,, why is it wrong to have a thread for others to talk about natural chicken keeping? I think it is great, alot of new people join every day and if natural ways of keeping chickens can inspire even one of those new people then that is even better.I dont mean to disrespect but if you dont wish to find a thread to take the place of an old one then dont, its ok, but to come to the thread and post a negative comment, its no ok. Too much argumentive disputes are what make threads fail. There is no reason why many threads such as this cant grow and be successful and teasch others. There are many threads I have visited and not like the content or not liked how new comers were treated, I left I didnt post something negative. Live and let live I suppose. I just dont get it sometimes I guess.

Actually this is the ONLY natural chicken keeping thread. The other thread was about the Gnarly Bunch, and happened to incorporate natural chicken keeping. The OT addition has no bearing on the fact that people like keeping chickens naturally, and are willing to teach and learn from each other. I don't think any ONE person personifies that.

Stonykill- I like the idea of letting the hen live out her days after giving eggs for however many years. You just leave the broodies? Do you always give them eggs to hatch?
You know after a hen has given me 6 or more years of egg laying, they deserve to live out there little remaining time. IMHO.

Yes I do not mess with the broody's. Some girls hatch only their own eggs. Some like my best broody "Mama" ....yes that is her name.... when left to her own devises hatches far too many roo's. So I take hers and give her other eggs. I'll return a lost chick, I'm not cold and calloused, but trust me, chickens are better at being chickens than humans are.

Always. No. All broody's don't get eggs. Some refuse to nest in a safe spot time after time. Them I break. Some are just horrible mothers and never get a 2nd chance to brood. But the poor mothers are certainly the minority

And nobody is trying to replace those threads, Galanie.

That said, if you don't like this thread, nobody is forcing you to be a part of it. There is no need to come over here just to be negative. We have had enough negativity over the last days - please don't spread that negativity to this thread too.

If you aren't here to learn and share about natural chicken keeping, there is no need to post on this thread.

Bulldogma - Thanks so much for starting this new thread!! I have been following The road less traveled every morning and evening for two months now and was so sad when I saw that it was gone! I hate that Bee is not around for a while because she is defiantly a treasure! I have learned so much from her over these last couple of months. Thanks again for all your hard work!

Only stating opinion. As everyone is free to do. Like anywhere else, if you don't agree, you don't have to. :) Be it chicken keeping or religion or your core beliefs, I can agree or disagree but I will not ever lobby to take away your rights to do so..

Funny side note..I'm on the iPad, and hadn't been able to give ovations. I previously tried the mobile version and don't like the format, but just discovered if I switch to Mobile I can give an ovation. Then I have to click desktop again, because it's just better.
