what the heck is it?




unfortunately these are linked and I can't break them up. I'm trying to figure out what these chicks are, from the hatching lady that got things mixed up. there are 3, all are crested, have pink legs and some have a little grey running through the wing feathers. any ideas?

I need help, I had 19 chickens, 8 weeks and 19 weeks, I was an idiot, I'll deal with that later. I should not have left them to free range while I was gone, such an idiot.

Someone's dog came and just started killing them while we were gone, we came home while he was finishing them off, he was killing them, just to kill them.

10 are dead, some died just while we were looking for the others. A few are fine, thank God. They somehow flew away and hid.

I have an injured 8 week old polish now, I think she's in shock. I had six 8 week olds- Now I am down to this one and one is perfectly fine, she she got away.

The 19 week olds- I guess 6 of those are dead. everything is a blur, trying to remain focused here thru the tears, never thought I'd cry over a chicken, but here I am.

Okay what do I do with the injured, I know that dog bites are bad for anything, know I heard that before.

I have the one 8 week old polish in shock and 4 of the older hens with dog bites. What do I do?

Right now they are drying off, on top of all this it was raining.

Please help!

Lynn, this ticks me off. Not you, that owner of the dog. If it were me, that dog would be dead. Like now.

Stony has saved a lot of ducks after being attacked with Nustock I believe.

I'm so, so sorry to hear about this. So angry to hear about this. Stupid owners.. They should be paying for this!

what I did for a mink attack was wash well, washed off dried blood with hydrogen peroxide then heavily applied Nustock.

Good luck and report the owner to the dog warden and have their dog put down. I am not kidding.

Oh Lynn I am so sorry! I have no clue, maybe just fluids and keep them in a dry place like the coop if you think the others won't harm them. I know many speak of nustock for wounds.

Those look like they could be Swedish Flower Hens.

OMG - I'm so sorry this has happened.
Irrigate the wounds with clean water. Use hydrogen peroxide where blood has dried up and clumped to loosen it. Don't use hydrogen peroxide inside a bleeding wound - it acts as a blood thinner and can make the bleeding worse.
You can stop the bleeding on small cuts and puncture wounds with corn starch after irrigating/cleaning.
Use Neosporin, NuStock or any other ointment with antibiotic properties that you have on hand.
Wrap any bad/gaping wounds.
Birds in shock need to be kept warm and in a quiet place - check on them regularly.

Please update us when you can.

just asking, for the information of others. is it ok to use any Neosporin? I heard not to use the triple antibiotic, I don't use it myself; but I may one day.

not cream legbars, here is one of those chicks - this is the only one I am confident is a cream legbar. I have one maybe chick.



this is a pullet, even though it is kind of a rooster stance and look at those legs! but the chest is the tell-tale creamy reddish color and the neck feathers are the cream part.

Those look like they could be Swedish Flower Hens.

Leigh, really???? I was so hoping they were, but they are so different from the sfh chicks I've seen, not just in coloring but in body formation/feathering. I will be so excited if they are!!

I am so sorry, dog attacks are devasting. I've lost an entire flock before to dogs that dug under a fenceline, and it felt soo horrible. Keep the wounds cleaned out really well, chickens can survive some horrific injuries. am hoping you have the nustock on hand.
