The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

ok, all you ee lovers out there - I think this is a pure araucana, or else a leghorn/auracana mix (super blue egg layer).
Are you thinking roo or pullet? about 9 weeks old (time flies)
She looks like a girl to me. Araucana desirable traits are tufts and rumpless, she doesn't have either, so if she is pure (is possible some pure have no tufts and a tail) she isn't desirable for breeding in the U.S. anyway. Pretty girl though.

I'm worried about PigeonGuy. I have sent 2 messages with no reply. He usually answers right away.

Mumsy I had a hornet nest on the ground in some clumps of ferns. They are nasty and very aggressive. Stung me several times and even my dog Daisy the lab. Stung her so bad her eye was swollen shut. I had to call the bug guy to move their nest. Horrible little beasts. Yours look like what I had.

I DID A STUPID THING.... VERY UNINTENTIONAL BUT STUPID.

I was at someone's house today looking at their goats. They also have poultry of all types. I've been there before. I INTENTIONALLY wear shoes for visiting whenever I go somewhere with animals then "religiously" throw them into the laundry right away when I get home. Never wear them out toward my coop or even on the path to the coop.

UNTIL TODAY

I went to the farm straight from work. Then I was rushing around running errands after I visited the farm, came home, ran into the house, got food for the chickens (hadn't given them anything yet today) and marched right into the chicken coop. Walked right into the litter. Filled bowls. Then had the great idea that I might as well rake/stir the litter while I was out there.

Came back into the house and all of a sudden it hit me.

I HAD WORN SHOES IN THERE THAT WERE FILLED WITH ALL KINDS OF MANURE FROM THE OTHER FOLK'S YARD.

Is there anything I should do? I went back out and removed a bit of the litter where I was standing but that's probably not very effective. Anything else you'd do if it were you?

When trying to get rid of bees, it's always best to do it after dark. They're all inside, and you get them all at one shot. Alleviates having some out and some in. Also..they don't usually come swarming out in the dark unless you have a bright light shining on it.

All you can do is hold your breath and hope the chickens they had were healthy..

You've already exposed your birds to whatever it is they could have carried. Nothing you can do to take it back. Fingers crossed.

Turkeys. Ducks. Geese. Chickens. All of them in that yard along w/the goats and a dog. The shoe treads I wore were full of "stuff".

How 'bout a spray of ACV solution on the litter?

Stupid thing is that I always am almost "anal" about such things. Make my husband wear washable shoes when we go somewhere; take them off right away and put into wash, etc.
