I know I am behind and will catch up later..I just wanted to drop a note about the show. (I will post pictures later). One of my birds made Champion row and three others made BB and BV.

We may have talked about this before. If so, please forgive my memory.

For those of you that weigh your chickens (meat), if you use a platform type scale how to you weigh them? Or is the preferred method a hanging scale with them in some container that you can hang?

I'm talking about live weighing.

For the hanging ones, I think it is popular to tie the legs together and hang by the tie.
For the flat ones, the kind, that I have, I would again tie the feet together. I would place a cookie sheet or large flat object like a plywood scrap on the scale, then turn it on to zero it and finally add the chicken. My flat one could easily hod a cardboard box if you did not want to tie the legs together but the movement might make the weight flux. you would still get a good guess at the live weight though.

I do it pretty easy. I have a postal scale for shipping. I use a box, zero out the machine and place the bird in the box. It also work for human scales. I like to use the postal scale since it is very transportable and has a lifted stand for boxes of all sizes.
