Most law abiding citizens will respect a No Trespassing sign and it also provides legal protection. People seem to be implying that No Trespassing signs are rude. I don't share that perception, at all. We see them quite frequently when we're out hiking or riding horses and we respect them. You may want to include a "please don't feed the chickens" sign as well, in case someone ends up tossing bread over the fence...

I once worked at a forest experimental station. We had problems with people "parking" behind one of our buildings at night. Our maintenance guy solved the problem with a sign that said
" DANGER this area is subject to radiation levels of ###. STAY CLEAR!"
The ### was the radiation values of the sun! Believe it or not it really worked.

the Director of the Day Care needs to be told that their paying clients are trespassing onto your private property. Let the Director deal with their paying clients.

I guess I am naive cause I am so taken aback that someone would think it was ok to just walk into someone elses yard and feed their animals like that! I'm just blown away, people have no boundaries. Who the hell goes onto someone elses land and FEEDS THEIR COW???? I'm just appalled.

I have to say though, I agree with trying to make friendly a little with the daycare. Maybe just a friendly conversation with the owner to let her know it wasn't that you're trying to be cranky, but that chickens are actually very sensetive to toxins and certain foods and people who mean well could easily make them sick or even kill them. Then let her know that it isn't safe for toddlers to be around the birds. Chickens do like to peck and you would hate for a child to get scared by a chicken pecking them because they had bread or something in their hands.

I too would be concerned that a parent might blame you if their child was injured. Chickens will peck them right in the eye if they put their face in range and that is exactly what children that age DO! My kids are 4 and 2 and we have to be vigilant that they keep their faces away.

Also what if one of them stepped on your bird?

We had this happen a few weeks ago. I felt so violated. Not to mention the lady, with the three little girls, came up along the tree line behind the garden. It looked like they were sneaking! Just waltzed right up to my pens. One of the little girls grabbed the fence and started to shake it!!! Made me so mad. I wished my rooster would've gone up to the girl. He woulddn't attack, but a foot and a half tall roo is pretty scarey. My mom finally went out there when we saw a dog come into the yard!!!! I knew this dog (she didn't belong to these people) and I just got even more angry. I wish it'd had been right after a butcher, I leave heads out there and theres blood everywhere. Fortunately, my dog started barking (she's a foot tall, but has a fierce bark) and the woman realized we were home. The coops are not that far from the house, either. She probably thought we weren't home. I agree with the OP, the nerve!!!!!

I guess I am naive too! I just can not fathom this behavour, how does someone just make theirself at home on someone elses property? As my DH always says "The world is going to H@*# in a hand basket" Do we just not have any kind of respect for others anymore? I know I am old fashioned but I think that is a good thing. Why is it so easy for all of us to understand this and so hard for others, and the parents are teaching their kids its alright to just go and do as they please.
