Your coop is amazing. And two months is what it has taken me just to get flooring in a rabbit hutch. Im just sayin.

Also in Nor cal. Do you get those crazy hard north winds up your way?

OMG, I read this thread in it's entirety in one sitting--and here it is the last page (so far) and it is not done YET???? I had so hoped to be rewarded with the 'completed' pictures.

I agree with Joe. This 'Do it yourself' has gone on quite long enough. I'm not sure it makes sense for him to make you do it all, since he already has all the skills and then some. You should make him do all the canning next summer, or do all the cleaning, or whatever it is that you can whip through and he would have to agonizingly struggle through bit by bit.

That being said, my husband was a jack of every 'masculine' trade, I never hammered a nail in, he did all kinds of wonderful projects for our home/homestead, and then, dad-blast him, he up and died on me. I sorely regret not knowing how to do anything along the 'guy thing' lines. I don't know how, and wish I didn't HAVE to know how. I was spoiled for 30 years...

Or better yet, taking care of the kids.

I'm sorry you lost your husband. But that is exactly why my husband wanted me to build it. He wants me to have the skills to build something if I have to. (and to realize it's not as easy as saying build me a coop - he accomplished his goal there)

I busted my butt this week to get all the "loose ends" done so we could finish the fencing this weekend. But it started raining yesterday, and this morning we have a touch of snow.

We need the tractor to pull the wire tight for the fencing, and we can't use the tractor when the ground is too wet.

So of my remaining to do list:
Install the bolts on the people door
Fence off remaining 10 feet of fence
Install gate and latch

Sorry to disappoint you that it's not finished yet. Think how I feel.

I really like your storage area!!! I have a new project (it's currently sitting in my driveway, waiting for a dozen or so strong lifters to get it where it needs to go. I'll have to give serious consideration to a storage area like that. It won't be as big, but it'll be something!

That will make a great coop! Congrats!

As for the storage area, it makes sure there's no wasted space. Storage on the top, brooders on the bottom. I'm going to cover it with screening material with some spare 2X4 chunks at the bottom for weight, to keep the chickens from getting up there. Then I can fling it over a rafter to get it out of my way when I need to get in there.
