The new (human) baby thread...

Isabella does better with the Pampers than the Huggies. We tried the walmart brand, too, and they puff up so much that they pour out of her clothes around her legs.

But, we had a great Thanksgiving! I had the hardest time finding a Thanksgiving outfit for her so between me and my mom, we made her one.

We opted for a regular sleep n play outfit... When ALLLL of the out of state family converged on our house Wednesday afternoon, my poor baby got stressed from everyone hoovering over her and she couldn't keep a thing on her stomach.. So I decided to play it safe with the sleep n' play yesterday.. Fortunatley she did much better with the crowd this time.

Nappy (diaper) rash!
my poor baby is suffering with it, I know it's probably connected to the fact he's teething but he's bright red and sore and has been for more than 2 weeks now. I've tried all the brands of cream my friends advise, I've tried (against current advice) baby powder. I've even tried medicated talcum powder. I leave him bare for as much time as I can so the air can get at it. I don't know what else to try... any advice?

I use lotion my mom makes it has all sorts of oils in it, but I have heard coconut oil works good too. Also if you can rinse him with water between every change that should help. Is it yeasty? If so I have heard of people mixing a small amount of lotramin with triple paste and applying for 2 weeks. Adding probiotics to his diet and drying with a hair dryer. Poor babe.

thanks, I'm seriously considering taking him to the doctors if there's no improvement soon

I'ld try the lortramin and some probiotics (yogurt). You should see improvement within 24 hours and you can get lortramin over the counter. If it isn't improving than take him in. Sorry you guys are going through this. I hope he feels better soon.

I found this recipe. They said the antacid soothes the pain.
Magic butt cream is equal parts
-Desitin (the thick original- not the creamy)
-Maylox (or store brand, mint flavor is more 'cooling' on baby's bottom)
-Lotramin AF (you have to make sure it is the anti fungal)

it may be kind of lumpy at first and may separate in between uses- but this stuff is the BEST. If your friend has good Rx coverage, her doc can call it in and the the pharmacy can make it for her- they use all the same ingred, except they use nystantin instead of the lotramin

I'll have to figure out if lortramin has a different name over here, the people at the pharmacy looked at me like I was weird when I asked if they had any

Shane had nasty diarrhea for quite a while and it looked awful, even blistered. I felt like the worst mom, but he had non stop diarrhea so no matter how often I changed his diaper it was always dirty. Now that he has normal stools his butt gets red on occasion and I use baby powder. I found out that the reason they don't reccomend baby powder is because of the dust in the air it causes and they think that can lead to respiratory problems. dry the butt after every change with a washcloth and use the washcloth to dab on some powder.
I would call the Dr before trying the lotramin.
But hydro cortisone cream works REALLY good. Just a dab will do ya, I used it when he had the blisters and in just 2 days his butt looked better than it had it a very long time. The problem with diaper rash creams is that they can lock moisture in if the bum is not completely dry. Try the hydro cortisone cream and if that doesn't work then I'd call the Dr.
