The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Have any of you seen that Spielberg/Hanks HBO series "Band of Brothers"? It was based on true stories of combat during WWII, in Europe. We have it on disc and it was so good.

About a week ago we came across "The Pacific", a 10 part series also done by Spielberg & Hanks, this one following the Marines that were in the Pacific during WWII. Excellent production, again based on real events and people. What those guys went through is amazing. Seemed to me they had it much harder than the ones in the ETO (not that they had it easy).

My dad was in the Pacific in the Navy at that time and it gave me a glimmer of some of what he must have seen and lived through. For anyone interested in history, I'd highly recommend both of these.
the Pacific was awesome series I watched it on HBO when it came out. Pretty gruesome stuff they went through....Thank a Vet when you can....

I Could not go to the walk in or  the emergency room because my immune system says,"Germs? Alright! Party!"
So I had to wait it all out here at home.
I so wanted to get on here and talk... but, I didn't know how anything was going to go, and I did not want to be alarmist.

Peeing blood is scary and it could have been really bad.

I played a lot of solitaire and fretted.
He is fine today.
I do understand why they prescribe pain killers, but he has only used a few Motrin. No wonder the world is addicted to Oxycontin.
They hand it out rather freely.
Then again he might have a high pain tolerance,
I really don't understand the addiction. I've taken pain killers for over 10 years so yes I'm physically addicted....but the people that take them to get high I don't see The appeal
They just make me tired. I like to be moving. Some of it is probably my tolerance...but seriously these people that pop them by the hands full I don't get it...:/

Pain pills give you an euphoric feeling, they make you happy and hopeful, I do understand the appeal, then of course you fall asleep. Not an addict, just get it.

Morphine made me dizzy and I couldn't see straight or stay awake long, that didn't make me happy.
if be better with NSAIDS...but can't take them because my kidneys are damaged. I think years ago when I first started taking Vicodin I might have got that good feeling..but it didn't last long.
Although I got decent pain relief for a long time until one day they just quit working....

That would be horrible, I've been taking Ibuprofen every day for 30 years, I do worry about my kidneys because of juvenile diabetes, we seem to be a pair of old people.

I'm 51...but I feel much older....I just have had a lot of health issues that ruined my body.....and being a mechanic for thirty years did the rest.
Pain meds just help round the pain off
But does nothing for the inflammation.
I've even developed cyst on my bones because of chronic inflammation.

I have all over arthritis, had both shoulders replaced, and multiple surgeries and of course the chemo, I think we are both in the same boat. Edited to add I feel very old.
