Well, it wasn't so bad....we were going back to eastern South Dakota for Thanksgiving and we figured if we ran into trouble on the road at least we'd have eggs and chicken. Take awhile to get a Brahma done over a Sterno can in a blizzard, but I suppose it could have been done! The only bad part of the trip was the occasional cecal poop. In a closed van with the heaters on that got a bit ripe!

Dying with laughter ....

I have been out on some of those roads in dead of winter when a storm rolls in, and I always thought I was well-prepared but now think I should've started to keep chickens sooner (and in the car, just in case).

Good morning folks

Song worm warning! You know that song by Bill Ray Cyrus ‘Achy Breaky Heart’? currently singing my own version ..

Don’t tell my bits, my achy breaky bits, I just don’t think they’d understand.
And if you tell my bits, my achy breaky bits, they might just break altogether!

You can thank me later for the song worm

Excellent score with the books N F C. Glad to hear that things are going well at the course.

Blooie Tank is beautiful!

You got me with Sterno Can .. had to Google that one!

Ha! It's about time we got ya back!

Thanks... we sure like Tank and she'll be here until she dies of old age, probably! Even Kendra can now give Tank treats from her wheelchair without worrying about Tank flying up at her. Tank is too big and wayyy too lazy to fly if she doesn't have to!

Debby, congrats on hiring the bartender, hope he'll share tips

. Is the teenager the gal or guy coming back?
Hoping you get some catering help, bet the upcoming season will be even busier than last year.

RE: your post on the Old Books - it brought back a memory... we have biannual friends of the library sales that are awesome..but the last time I attended I caught the Norovirus and it was awful (almost all those working the sale got sick and hospitalized). I left those books alone for nearly a year before touching them
sickbyc.gif
. I do so miss going to those sales, but can't make myself forget:(

Blooie - Tank is awesome as is Molly, What breed is Molly?

Telia - sorry about your achy parts
hugs.gif
. Guess it was the shed clean out, and hope you can rest awhile.

I got DH to clear out the brooder area
wee.gif
. Decided to just push all the garage junk out of the way and not do a REAL clean out ( that will take years) .

But I did help a little and washed out the brooder and washed their water and feed vessels...no chick pics to show yet, so here's all l have so far:

With some luck, I'll have some baby chicks Wednesday!

When do these little naked babies get some feathers?
According to Dr Google - in about a week they will have wing feathers and head feathers, and look a lot cuter! We brought in the two biggest this morning but I can't seem to get the temperature stable for them in my brooder. I'm checking it every two minutes. It's not cold here either! And it's so humid after our big rainstorm. Quite a few places got flooded in Auckland, so we were lucky that the worst we got was some water running through the bottom of one of our runs outside. My poor chickens are drenched, as is the aviary, so I'll have to clean everybody out soon.

I got woken up at 3.30am by some confused cicadas who started singing their song! I gave up on going back to sleep at 4am despite the fact they'd worked out it was still nighttime and stopped by then. And due to the rain I am so behind on washing that I'm in long fleecey pants here as I've run out of clothes (not that I own that many).

sunflour - I can't wait to see your chicks. We hatched some chicks this time last year under a broody hen (thankfully the breeder we got the eggs off takes back boys). It was so much fun!

Bet it takes longer than 2 minutes for the temp to change - guess that's like a watched pot won't boil?
Can't wait to see your babies with some feathers.

Cicada at 3:30 am - do y'all have daylight at that time? Regular/annual ones are not so bad here, but the 13 year type are obnoxious

.

I don't do hatching ( wish I could).

So those lucky chicks are getting wine in their brooder? What goes better with crumbles, white or red?

(The girl is the one that is planning on coming back to the course, haven't heard from the guy yet.)

You're on a roll there! Well, except for the wine...everyone knows margaritas go better with chick starter crumbles than wine! Can't wait to see the chicks!

Molly was an English Setter, and she was incredible! She died in the fall of 2015, at around 13 years old - not too long after that photo of her and Tank was taken as a matter of fact. She loved everyone, but Kendra was her special buddy! Not getting another dog while our travel schedule coming up is so hectic. Not fair to do to a puppy -hard to train if you aren't here all the time - and definitely not fair to adopt an older dog when we're taking off and just having someone come over to let him/her out and do the feeding and watering. Poor thing wouldn't even be used to us and the new surroundings yet. Molly was so used to it it didn't bother her, but she was broken into it more gradually than we'd be able to do now, and she knew the kids, Kenny and Jenny, and Tammy.
