The Odyssey/Eros flock

Pics
Four months old tomorrow, and this one is still looking like a pullet. Her mom is a full brahma, that raised a clutch in early spring, and her dad is an aseel, that was most likely broody raised as well. With a lot of luck, she'll go broody and raise the second batch of Tsouloufates while free ranging

Wow, she is pretty! I love her eyes and eye brows! :love Aseels seem to have the most pretty, emotional eyes!! 👁 👁 ❤

Yes they do, it's as if they are trying to communicate with us! Very soulful!

I've always said aseel are the most intelligent birds I've owned, and you can tell a lot about intelligence through the eyes. In fact, the Indian, Pakistani, etc breeders of aseel look at the eyes of their birds first and foremost

I believe you, I do think they are quite intelligent. I didn't know that about the Pakistanis look into the eyes first, I can totally see why you might do that before purchasing these birds. You can tell a lot about creatures by looking into the eyes. Fascinating!

Yes, it's very very interesting. I don't think any other breed has this hyper-analysis of the eye

I haven't seen all that many different breeds eyes, but I've seen my share I think. Some do have more expressive eyes and some are more blank. But never have I seen the expression and depth on a standard chicken than on the Aseel breed. ❤

Picture one, off-colour pullet. Love her crest. Picture two, the cockerel. His comb is still iffy. Picture three, the pullets with proper colour. Two don't have crests, so not thrilled about that. The one looking up does. She's my best pullet, and the youngest by almost a day

I've also been thinking of a way to separate the eggs from the culls and the eggs from this summer's breeders, without separating the flocks. We'll see how that goes. Not looking to create a bottleneck so early into the landrace, so I'll still be using the culls, I just want to have that distinction
