The Old Folks Home

Naturally the local coverage is close to 24 hours a day. I wanted to add that they were showing the police helping to clean up looted stores. Early in the morning all the kids that are out of school are coming out to clean up the streets along with the highway patrol, teachers and clergy.
Currently school is scheduled to start Monday. If so, they'll have missed 7 school days. It affected over 2000 kids in 3 districts.

Take the top off, spritz with clean water and go do chicken chores. When finished, but not more than two hours, check to make sure the eggs are dry and then put the top back on. Do this from day 8 to lockdwn.

There have been studies and this method will increase hatch rate. It makes the chicks hatch better too. I just did this with shipped CCL eggs 7 or 8 fertile eggs hatched a day early.
When I turn power off for the cool down I set my alarm so I don't forget to turn it back on. Getting old ya know.

Ok, can I mist myself with the mixture of water and vanilla extract. Will it work? ...
I'm going to have to mist myself this week. We're supposed to be hovering around 99 for 4 days starting tomorrow.

Still can't upload photos..shucks. Was going to show how big the puppies are getting. Had them out on the lawn yesterday. Funny how they reacted to it. What is this new stuff? I am finally taking them out of the swimming pool..and putting them in a brooder. Puppy/chick brooder. Since I'm not hatching chicks anymore, and I'm not breeding my dog anymore, wonder what I could use this for? Would show you the photo of the brooder, but, I can't download photos. Did I say..Shucks. :/ :) :)

Cynthia, it's crazy how they grow. When we had puppies, I had a chart where we wrote down their weight every day. It was quite interesting to see how quickly they put on weight. And it's amazing how quickly they learn things. We got rid of the last puppy when he was 12 weeks old, at that point he was housebroken already.

cc, the area where my coop is was low, and shaded, so it stayed wetter longer, while the decomposing leaves made it boggy. I brought in a dump truck load of sand. Simply putting the sand on top doesn't solve the problem. The sand has to be worked into the mush at regular intervals at first. It doesn't take too long, and this eventually provides good drainage, and a good floor for the coop. It's easy to clean the coop floor by hosing it down, and once in awhile turning the dirt/sand to refresh the entire floor area. I've never had trouble with mice before, but it's been raining a lot this month. I suspect they were looking for a dry area to have their young. I"m sure that when I remove the poop boards for about a week, that will force them to move on. About once a month, I get a couple of the large bottles of basil, and sprinkle outside the coop, during the summer. It's cheap, safe, and does a good job at keeping the flies away. As I said, it has been raining a lot lately, which increases our mosquito population too. I had read about the mosquitoes hating the scent of vanilla, and hanging vanilla air fresheners in the coop would keep the mosquitoes away. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on something that may not work, so I added about a tsp. to a quart sized spray bottle, and filled it the rest of the way with water, then sprayed around the coop, and outside of it too. It did good. I will see how long it lasts, and how often I have to repeat it, but I'm thinking about getting some of those absorbent cardboard type coasters, and saturating them with this mixture, then hanging them in the coop. This should give me longer lasting protection, with very little expense involved.

Cynthia I am with you on the "shucks, we still can't post pictures". This is the only forum I can discuss my grandchild and my daughter sent me an ultrasound picture this morning. :weee She had her first doctor appointment last Monday and her hormone levels were about double what they should be at this stage. The doc wanted an ultrasound done just to see if there were twins or if this is just "normal" for her. It is a single healthy baby and I want to SHARE the picture with you all and I CAN'T :hit Oh well, I will once they get the bug fixed.

The only problem is I can do that for a few days but then I'll have the Dorking eggs in and will have to manually turn for a few days until they are 8 days old. It's a hassle with only one incubator. My family already thinks I'm insane to keep getting more eggs.
