Wisher: how is that easter eggplant thingy doing?
What is a easter eggplant? An eggplant that grows colored chocolate eggs?

The only problem is I can do that for a few days but then I'll have the Dorking eggs in and will have to manually turn for a few days until they are 8 days old. It's a hassle with only one incubator. My family already thinks I'm insane to keep getting more eggs.

Any bit of the cooling and misting helps. I hope they all hatch for you!

Quote: I guess so. I changed my mind to not build the other set of pens but still had the same number of birds that I bought for 18 pens. And they needed some rearranging so they would fit into 9 pens and the hen run. lol I am going to buy a dog run for the Arkansas Blues I will be getting so I can keep them separate and give them plenty of room. lol TSC has a nice one for 279. It's the largest one they have and we have plenty of wire to cover the top and put a tarp over it. I am very excited about them!

cc, the area where my coop is was low, and shaded, so it stayed wetter longer, while the decomposing leaves made it boggy. I brought in a dump truck load of sand. Simply putting the sand on top doesn't solve the problem. The sand has to be worked into the mush at regular intervals at first. It doesn't take too long, and this eventually provides good drainage, and a good floor for the coop. It's easy to clean the coop floor by hosing it down, and once in awhile turning the dirt/sand to refresh the entire floor area. I've never had trouble with mice before, but it's been raining a lot this month. I suspect they were looking for a dry area to have their young. I"m sure that when I remove the poop boards for about a week, that will force them to move on. About once a month, I get a couple of the large bottles of basil, and sprinkle outside the coop, during the summer. It's cheap, safe, and does a good job at keeping the flies away. As I said, it has been raining a lot lately, which increases our mosquito population too. I had read about the mosquitoes hating the scent of vanilla, and hanging vanilla air fresheners in the coop would keep the mosquitoes away. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on something that may not work, so I added about a tsp. to a quart sized spray bottle, and filled it the rest of the way with water, then sprayed around the coop, and outside of it too. It did good. I will see how long it lasts, and how often I have to repeat it, but I'm thinking about getting some of those absorbent cardboard type coasters, and saturating them with this mixture, then hanging them in the coop. This should give me longer lasting protection, with very little expense involved.
I didn't imaging putting a load of sand wouldn't be successful. That's a lot of work. I like the idea of the coasters.
Have you seen those multi catch mouse traps?
I always tell people to imagine the wettest weather they've ever had and avoid placing the coop where the bogs are.

Cynthia I am with you on the "shucks, we still can't post pictures". This is the only forum I can discuss my grandchild and my daughter sent me an ultrasound picture this morning.

She had her first doctor appointment last Monday and her hormone levels were about double what they should be at this stage. The doc wanted an ultrasound done just to see if there were twins or if this is just "normal" for her. It is a single healthy baby and I want to SHARE the picture with you all and I CAN'T

Oh well, I will once they get the bug fixed.
When my wife was pregnant with our daughter (our first), we went for a prenatal visit at about 7 or 8 months. Baby was huge and so was my wife's belly. A couple minutes into the visit, the doctor, a little lady from Singapore that came highly recommended by family and friends, asked my wife - "Did I tell you that you were having twins?"
When I heard this, I thought "cool, a twofer". My wife's response was different. She immediately burst into tears. The doctor sent us for an ultrasound and it turned out there was just one fattie.

As long as you have enough space, you're not a hoarder. I'm on the verge. I don't even tell the wife when I set eggs.

Yes, the diluted vanilla made me smell like fresh baked cookies, and the mosquitoes hated me.
And little kids loved you.

Any bit of the cooling and misting helps. I hope they all hatch for you!
What is accomplished with the misting?

Just when I was starting to lose weight, this weekend is the "Festival of Nations" in Tower Grove Park.
Other than entertainment on 4 stages and lots of ethnic do dads to buy, the food is the main draw. I'll be eating myself around the planet. 40 ethnicities serving food. I'm looking forward to tasting what the newest immigrants have to offer - the Bhutanese.

The seeds I started didn't do well and fell victim to bad timing. I believe they are some type of gourd. I lost all my starts; those, ornamental peppers, zinnias, and prairie sunflowers. I had looked and looked for those pepper seeds, it made me sick to lose them........

The key to weight loss isn't avoiding feasts, it's the every day diet. Enjoy the heck out of the festival, and think about what you're eating on weekdays instead.
