And @vehve you now have me looking up archaic measurements, and I just HAVE TO KNOW, what the do-whap did the Fins do with their dogs in 1600? Kill them all and get new ones? Start feeding them salmon? Or, maybe they didn't do anything with their dogs, maybe the entire country bought hearing aids? What was it? Hum?

Perhaps some sort of breeding program to enhance their bark? Possibly conducted in some monastery? You never know...

@superchemicalgirl love the story about the roofer! At least he has chickens too so he understood a little more about the poop..... Hey! Maybe we can get you to sew the matching American flag, or a nice Crimson Tide print, Speedos for Bama and his Silkie-on-a-leash?

I do take commissioned work. The plot thickens with the roofer - came home today and the entire Metal Man device is gone. They left the tarp and 2 ladders up to the roof. And they are not done. It's anyone's guess as to what transpired here today.

I think it might be a good idea to consult the neighbors before building a hive. You might have some allergic people living around you, I would not want to accidentally kill a neighbor.

Having absolutely zero experience with bee keeping, I'm not too sure about this, but it's my understanding that you can lure a wild swarm to move into your own coop.

Always consult the neighbors but do it AFTER you are equipped with the knowledge. Most people aren't allergic to bees -- it's usually hornets/yellow jackets/wasps because bees are usually quite gentle and don't sting unless you're stealing their honey/assaulting the hive. Swarms are also the most gentle type of bees - they have no honey to defend so they generally can be handled easily. Note that I have never seen a swarm of bees and you'd have to see one to capture one... make sure to place your hive at least 15 feet from the property line so that they generally don't see bees in the flight path. I have 2 hives and we don't see bees that often unless we are right in front of the hive.

Apparently, it was defined according to the Swedish mil to be 10.6km in 1655 (we were under Swedish rule). Previously it had been about 6 km.

I found this

Unit Relative value Metric value Imperial value Notes

peninkulma (old) 3000 ~5344.2 m ~3.32 mi Before year 1600 5 virsta; after 1600 10 virsta. The distance a barking dog can be heard in still air.

peninkulma (new) 6000 ~10.6884 km ~6.64 mi Before year 1600 5 virsta; after 1600 10 virsta. The distance a barking dog can be heard in still air.

So, how can the dogs suddenly be heard barking in still air twice as far as before? Maybe they got super louder dogs from Sweden? :D
