The Rocks are what cuts us off from cell phone service.....

I do know people who have better cell phones than mine who do get reception on my property. I just cant afford more than a pay as you go phone.

I took my grandma up to the area two days ago to get my mail. She didnt want to go at first because the didnt want the car to go "off roading" But I explained to her that my mail box was on the highway... So she went. The closer we got to Jacumba the more she liked the ride.... She had driven that way once when mom was about five years old.... that was 75 years ago....

But on the way back she asked me If I had ever lived up there... "Yes Grandma I lived up here for about 4 years" from 2003 to 2007. ( But the sixty mile drive to work almost killed me literally.... Fatigue of driving 120 miles per day wore on me... I woke up on the other side of a bridge that has a drop of a good two hundred feet. So when I got a good job offer I moved to town to bunk at her house in 2007 and stayed. Roommate left to hold the fort didnt work out.So the house has been vacant now for three years. )

Grandma then asked me "So are you still dreaming of living up here?" I said "No Grandma I am PLANNING on living here again" I have to remove that Dreaming concept quickly because she DOES NOT LIKE DREAMERS.

then she asked "So what do you DO up here..." She still doesnt get it... "Do" I said.... " I do the very same things here that you do at your house. Live, watch tv, cook dinner, read books, go out to eat, shop." "I also write and paint and craft with found objects All very messy stuff... (she hates mess wont let me paint here... its her house) but at my house I have craft areas places where the mess is a non issue. I also told her that I want to raise chickens for eggs and meat.... that disgust look again...

Oh well the ride home was very good anyway.

Here is a picture of my place from space

Deb, I stated wondering about Helipad (long story) the last time I saw that pic. Time for a long story?

Oh, and this is not because it's a Finnish company, but the cheapo Nokias usually get pretty decent reception, good antennas on those.

for what its worth 1square km = 0.386102 square miles.

Ok Helocopte pad..... Was supposed to be a class A sized areana wich is about 200 x 60 ish... I needed the space for finishing out my horse's training. Because when we moved up there she had never been hitched to a four wheeled vehicle... Only a two wheeled vechicle or a road cart or a Forecart. My intention was to have her do tourist trips into the desert for picture taking.... One of those six passenger wagonettes that come out of Canada.... very sturdy all steel good price and there are dealers here in California.

Wagonette

Or a Roof seat Break

I could dream for a Roof Seat.... never afford one... sigh They cost as much as a car in some cases...

But a wagonette can be bought for around three or four grand....

The deal is in order to introduce her to a much heavier vehicle and get accustomed to stopping starting and turning one you really should have an assistant to help you. I dont have anyone.... so my best bet was to work in an areana that has good walls to contain a possible runaway.... I am good with that can ride it through till a hoirse settles. But arenas have a known surface no surprises like a rutted road would have. Did I mention that driving a horse is the most potientially dangerous mode of transportation... Horse wise.

Any hoo This spot opposite the house was reasonably flat to begin with and well within the property lines it just needed to be graded flat and the surface broken so it would be soft. I had owned the place about six months and had finally moved in.

So I was going into the local liquor store and as is my nature chatted up a fellow coming out.... Found out his name was Luis something or other... I mentioned that I had bought the Simons old place and he mentioned that he had graded the pad for that house..... So I asked him if he was still in the business of grading.... he said sure....

So we chatted some more and I asked him to come out and give me an estimate. To grade the arena as well as smooth out the ruts in my driveway... He Gave me a quote on one of his estimate forms.... of a thousand dollars... Hmmm and OH he needed fifty bucks to get oil for his tractor "shes got some age on her" So I figured no worries he can walk off with fifty bucks it would be bad on me... So I gave him the money and he drove off saying hed be there on the weekend.... Which was a couple of days later...

So a week later I run in to him at the liquor store again... 'So What happened I asked...." Oh It wasnt enough... she takes alot of oil... so I give him another twenty.... Dang he showed up the next day.... I heard him about thirty minutes before he got to the driveway.... He had graded the WHOLE road.... LOL. When he arrived he was driving something like this

only a little bit shorter with a dozer blade on the front... He bought it off of Caltrans after they finished Freeway 8 He was part of their heavy equipment team. and boy was she old and spattered with oil. He had driven it a good fifteen miles to get it there

He graded for two days straight a friend would come and bring him home in the evenings and bring him back in the morning. Then he asked for half the money... I wrote him a check.... He didnt show up again for two weeks... apparently this is something that just happens here up in the desert...

He asked me for mor oil money and off he went back again the next day and finished up... I said HEY thats not an arena... "Well No... but its a nice big pad... I cant take it down any further.... See this big rock in the middle its the size of a school bus. I cant take it out. so stupid me paid him the rest of the money to be done with it.

when I talked to Tom my neighbor the next day.... he asked me if I had hired Crazy Luie to do some work at my house... Oops I thought... "Let me guess he asked you for money for oil right off" "yep" "Hes got a seat with his name on it at the casino... he was probably out of gambling money.

come to find out Crazy Luie was known for most of the road grading in the area... Some of it legal some of it under the radar... he once plowed a road over a jeep trail the border patrol used through some properties in order to get to his girlfriends house....

Here in California the law states if you allow people to cross your property un impeded over the course of seven years they have a right to use it you cannot block them off.

Ohhh the stuff I have learned since the Crazy Luie days.... He passed about six years ago from lung cancer...
