The Old Folks Home

Very cute babies all around.

I completely feel your pain SCG when it comes to neighbors not respecting your property. Yesterday I came home to an obvious intruder into the chicken pen. There were egg splatters on the ground and a child sized glove. I went into the coop and checked out the broody and the other broody in the small coop. Both were still there but the broody in the big coop was down three turkey eggs. The neighborhood children broke them while they were having fun with the chicken eggs. I was LIVID yesterday and they are very lucky I am not exactly sure which ones they are. We are trying to figure out a way to "light up" the gates to the pen to teach them a lesson. When I was a child, I was taught not to ever mess with other people's property. I don't know what's wrong with these kids and the lack of parenting they are getting.

Too bad broody turkey didn't take a bite out of them. I've hear so much of this kinda stuff in my 5 years on BYC, it's getting to be common place.

I recall one family found total strangers in their yard using their barbeque grill and their tables and chairs . I had strangers open my gate so their dog could have a good run,& POOP in MY backyard.

The world is a very scary place even without terrorism.

You are all making me happy that I live in the frozen wasteland.

You know I live in the land of tweakers and drug runners coming across the border.... Not saying they are all druggies but one or two slips in every once and a while.

yet when i am home I dont lock the door nor do I have fence to keep people out. So far so good.

Outside of dealing with the 5150 lady who is gone now I haven't had trouble at all. Oh there was that one group of kids riding quads up and down the easement.... But when they drove up my driveway I waived them down...

I said to them, "Oh boy those look like fun" The first one was a young man about 16 years old he pulled his helmet off and he had a deer in the head light look. "Yes mam" I looked down the line and recognized one of the girls and the rest were much younger.

I said to him, "Did you know you are in my driveway? And on my property?' He shook his head.
I pointed to the road below, "That road is really an easement and it Crosses my property. Now I dont mind if you stay to that road down there but keep the dust down if you can." "Yes mam" he said.
I added, " Just so you know there are many more people out here who wont be as nice as I am about this... Be safe." they waived and drove off.

I never saw them again on my property nor on the easement below. I do know the two oldest were children of my neighbor.... hee hee.. the Prison Guard at Donivan.... ex marine and very very nice guy. good kids too.

Military parents, know how to keep kids in line. Ask me, I was an Army brat..just not a brat brat. :)

Cynthia, so that's your secret weapon.

Perchie, I tend to go for words, I know kids won't understand, that I am misusing.. - It sounds much worse than it is .Some are even afraid of this tiny(rotund) troll with the odd glint in her eye. - Actually I practice looks in the mirror to keep it sharp.

I go for treating them like adults... it works pretty well for the most part. Helps if you can talk to em long enough to find out who mom and dad is.

Quote: They will look similar to royal palm till the get a little older for some and then they start getting the brown in. Porter crossed the orgional Sweetgrass with royal palm to bring their size down.
My babies go thru a 50# bag just about every week.
Sounds like some teenager sewing his or her oats. Grrr

The white and black hen is now getting more brown so she is a year old and still getting coloring in. A few months ago my tom did not have this much brown and he is still getting his coloring in.
The boubron reds look a brownish red color. Some of them are a darker and some are a little lighter in color.

These are the parents of the poults. The hens are not as dark as the tom.
They eat like crazy.

Well hopefully we will not see those kids back again. DH went down and had a chat with the parents (I wasn't fit to go, trust me). I do believe the dad may have "explained" to them why what they did was wrong after he left. In fact when DH told the dad that he was going to electrify the pen the dad told DH to give them a spank if we ever caught them in the pen again. While that is tempting, I don't think I would really do that. I am hoping they got a "come to Jesus" session with dad and won't come back. I did get a chuckle out of one of their girls saying something about which boy had been breaking the eggs. Hmmmmm, that might explain the pink child sized glove in the pen from the other day. Hopefully she will see what her brother gets and won't be back either. The boys just said they were breaking the eggs to see the babies inside. I did explain to them that there weren't any babies because they just killed them by breaking the eggs. Yes I was brutally honest with them but maybe that will also help make an impression.

I have a BR girl now, so I'm familiar with those. I would love to get a RP, though. This morning there was quite a ruckus out there. Turns out there were two wild toms that really wanted to mate one of the girls. The two domesticated toms and the two wild toms had a gobble and show-off fest out there. I keep going out and shooing the wild ones away, but they keep coming back. And blue girl turkey is making these mournful sounds - she wants the boys from the different school something bad.

In all of this I have no idea where my BR girl is.
