The Old Folks Home

Interesting idea. I do have some eggs hatching in the bator. I may chunk em in the nest box she has been on
Bama, give her a couple of chicks for two or three days and then take them from her. It is the chicks that make them move to mothering. It is a hormone change.

I think she may be too small to protect them. Idk. There are some big buff brahma hens demon silkies, and a white houdan cockeral in that pen too.

Move her to a pet carrier or kennel, see if she will take the chicks and lock her in. Sometimes moving a broody is enough and sometimes just letting them see the chicks will break them.

Thank you. If these were not chicks from shipped eggs I would probably let her have a few. Im scared she would kill them. She is super dumb. She is the dumbest chicken on earth.

My idea today was to just lock her out of the coop. As long as she is eating and drinking, I feel a little better.
We had chicks hatching all night. I got up at 1:30 AM and 5:00 AM leg banding and moving chicks to the brooder.
I usually wake up before

I understand. I would just let her see them supervised--sometimes that is all it takes to break a broody. I have two to break now.

Another way is to set up a "broody" box--a wire bottom cage will work. You hang it off of the ground a couple of feet and leave the broody in it for a couple of days.
