The Old Folks Home

Bunny my streps are weird too. They can suddenly bloom with a totally wrong color blossom and then later go back to the real color. I've also have two different solid colored blossoms on the same stem. I think the surprises are part of the fun of growing them.

I had some snapdragons planted long ago - three years ago they popped up and were beautiful, they re-seeded for a couple more years, till a draught burned them out.

Once bought innocent looking flowers - looked like mini pansies, I think they were called violas. They weren't innocent, by the next year they were popping up all over the place, driveway, flower boxes, in the grass, in gravel, everywhere. I had no idea they were like weeds here. I had to demolish them so other things could grow.

Sounds like our creeping charlie around here. It get's in everything! We pull it up and feed it to the cows and it has now popped up in my new strawberry bed!

No I didn't eat it Alaskan, don't you know I never eat veggies? Don't let that happen again, please put in down in the dossier you are keeping on me. Hope I spelled that right.

DD, I reckon you now know why one of the common names for those little violas is "Johnny-Jump-ups." When I have sold some to people, I have told them, "you need to be sure you like these little guys, 'cause you are probably gonna have them for years, and they seem to prefer places where you didn't plant them and don't really want them to grow."
