The Old Folks Home

I just got off the phone with my parents; it seems that my mother fell this morning and broke her arm. Prayers are appreciated.

Prayers for your Mom being said here!

My youngest DD made doughnut bars today for Fathers day.

They are from Good Eats on the food channel and are baked, not fried.

Ok.... any military or similar folks

I was having a discussion with my son About something called "Forced March" I had an erroneous opinion that it was a march where you travel at speed for say two to three hours then a rest then two to three hours then a rest..... but I may be confusing that with Cavalry.

I had a rough day. Woke up to a headache (not uncommon) and DH#1 and DS#3 had to go to Bessemer (about an hour away) for the boy to play a baseball game. So everyone skipped church. When they got home, DS#3 found out that one of his good friends (also 15) was in a rollover accident on the way to church this morning. The friend was wearing his seatbelt, but his older brother (17) who was driving, was not. He was ejected and killed. I have cried and hurt all day for that family. Next, my niece called to tell me my sister is back in ICU. She has been in and out of the hospital for the better part of a year and we were really starting to believe she was past the critical stage. Today, her BP was hovering around 90/45....not good. To top it off, when I went to see my Dad (94,) he didn't know me, but kept asking where I was. That's not the first time that's happened, but I was already feeling emotionally weak and it got to me. The one bright point is that we worked on the garden entry gate/pergola until after dark. I was so happy with the way it has turned out so far. I will post a couple of pics.....

It's still laying down on the trailer where we worked on building it, but we have the string stretched where it will be set, the auger ready, and all that's left to do is dig the holes, add gravel, place it into the holes, add concrete, and lay some concrete pavers between the posts. We are going to build out the sides with 4x4 posts with 2x4 frames between them covered in dog wire. I plan to cover the wire with some type of vine. I am very excited about it.

D'S#2 said he loves it because it is very "medieval looking." He suggested some decorative wrought iron designs on the front of the gate. I love that boy. He is the same age as the one killed today. So sad......

Prayers being said for the family of your son's friend, that your sister will recover and for comfort for you as your Dad fights his memory loss battle.
