The Old Folks Home

A method I've used on more than one dog to teach it to bite softly:  When they get a bit too rough, or clamp down too hard, grab their front paw, put it in their mouth, shut their mouth down on it with both hands, until you know they've bitten their paw enough to hurt.  Do it quickly, then let go.  They might yelp, and that's ok.  Just do it once.  Sometimes they don't realize how biting down hurts others.  Normally, it doesn't take more than once for them to realize that clamping down hurts, but I had this one dog that it took twice before he learned the lesson.

I'm not a 'dog trainer' but have had quite a few dogs. That's what I always did, every time they bite make them bite themselves, their paws, their ear, they don't like their ears bit. Smack them on the nose. Need to nip it in the bud when they're little. Might seem cute rough playing with little puppy, much easier training not to rough house if you don't allow it from the beginning. Best to get a pup young just weaned, couple I had just weaned was the easiest house training ever. Skip the paper training, take them outside as much as possible. They don't ever go in the house they won't ever.

I didn't even wait for him to come in the door, I sent him a gleeful text.

Should've sent him a pic also Lol!
That's happened to me. Spend all day hunting come him to DW showing me her new screenshot on the laptop, two small bucks fighting in our back yard. She took a bunch of pics, I've never in all my yrs saw bucks fighting ever...

Ikr Honey while you were out looking for some deer they came looking for you! hahhaaaa My dh would laugh like crazy.

I really would like him to get a deer. He got one two years ago and we're out of the meat. While I'm getting a quarter of a cow and a whole pig from friends this year (different friends) I'd really like to get some deer for the freezer. I didn't do chickens this year, which I'm somewhat regretting now, but I would like some deer. BF's uncle got a bear and a moose already this year, I'm hoping to be able to try the bear meat.

hahaha Scg that is exactly what I would have done.

Deb I now carry my cell phone room to room with me and if I go outside. I have fallen so much that I know any one could be a bad one. I started carrying in a few years ago.
My hip is not getting any better.

Bear meat taste like beef to me. Some people don't like it. The younger the bear the tastier. A lot of the off rancid flavor people get are from older bears. Also important to process asap and get the fat off, that's where the rancid flavor comes from, can't age them like deer.
I was given a big chunk of bear loin roast this summer. Grilled it with bbq sauce. Still had some fat in it cause of the way it was cut in one big chunk bone in, grill melted much of the fat off. The fat that was still on tasted fine and not tallowy like deer. Must have been a young bear and the person who processed it knew what they were doing.

I live in Rhode Island and have been saying for the past three years I'm going to get chickens....well two months ago I finally did it. I called Murry McMurry and ordered 25 day old brown egg layers. ( I grew up with chickens) I ordered them to arrive two weeks ago...and walaaah they came. They will be three weeks on Tuesday and I have fallen head over for them! My plan is to get 50 more in the spring and also a couple Nubian Goats...I want a donkey too but I think that might just push the family over the edge. But we will see

! I let 8 of my girls out yesterday to roam around...I have a 4x4x4 brooder that is inside of a carport (shelter Logic 15x10x8) it works really well keeping the drafts away from the brooder. I built it in no time from something I remember being assisted to build as a child. I'm still working on my coop design as I need to get a building permit from the town so I hope to acquire that by the end of the week. The building inspector isn't lady friendly so he is a little more picky when we go to the office. So I will have all plans and designs ready for him so I can build next weekend.

the picture is of the girls after I closed up last night through a vent ...lol
